96 COBRA 300HP?

Maybe shop for an 99/01 Cobra upper setup? The 99/01 Cobra C-heads and intake are rated at 320hp instead of the 96-98's 305hp. Just on that combo, with a catback and midpipe, I had 285rwhp. I'm sure with some other simple bolt-ons like a cold air intake, aluminum driveshaft, underdrive pulleys, and a tune, 300rwhp shouldn't be a problem at all.

You could likely do it with the 96-98 B-heads, but it'd require a little more work, like head porting or cams.

Full bolt ons including longtubes, o/r mid pipe, pullies, etc with a short runner intake with imrc deletes and a tune will get around 300-310 rwhp. You don't need cams nor heads.

My old 97 with a K&N and off road midpipe w/ 4.30's I made 273/263 at the tires.

96-98 heads arn't the same as the 99/01 heads? I thought the intake was the only change. I was thinking this as a combo......
C&L intake with 80mm mass aire flow.
Under drives.
Long tubes.
o/r x pipe.
acufab t/b.
Cat back
4.30 gears
SCT custom dyno tune.
pray for 300rwhp.....

What do you guys think?

96-98 Heads are B heads
99+ are the C heads aka tumble port design.

The gears won;t help you in gaining rwhp, if anything they can hurt you. The list in my previous post is what will get you to 300 rwhp.

U can't use 99-01 upper intake due to your heads. But a/c delete, full exhaust, pulleys, intake, and t-body. That is all ready you can do. Make sure you get a Doc gas X pipe with the long tubes it will give u the most hp. Your 96 should put down 255rwhp stock with all this 290rwhp depending on how healthy is your motor.

But putting a 410 gear is nasty. I has a 373 in my cobra and wish i went with a 410 cause it can rev high. Its a 200rpm difference between a 373 and 410

The short runner intake w/ imrc deletes and tune is what will put you over. All the bolt ons you can have including Lt's will get you around 295ish. The intake and tune is what will help. There are a few that have a very similar combo of what I listed and making over 300 rwhp and around the 315 rwhp range.

BTW, a 4.30 or 4.56 gear is nastier:D

What is the intake runner delete?

The short runner intake is where the intake runners are shortened. With the IMRC deletes removed the Intake Manifold Runner Control butterflies are gone and new spacers are put in their placed. Of course you need a tune for this as well, otherwise you will get a CEL and not maximize the potential. This increases midrange and top end HP, but you tend to lose a little down low. That is why it is recommended to have a 4.30 gear or a 4.56 gear to overcome the low end loss.

I pulled the car into my shop to pull the ses light codes. It has bank 1,2 lean. I found the pcv hose cracked. That should help out with power some. I also reflashed the pcm. I will take her out to Big Shot Dyno and get a base line number this weekend. I am starting the modding next week.

IMRC on a 96 Cobra - I'd leave em. While you may be happy at the dyno (with some increase in PEAK HP), you won't be so happy on the street after you realize what you lost in making this deal.

BTW, my 04 Mach made 303 RWHP with UDPs, BBK throttle body, and MRT cold air intake, Magnaflow catted X and catback, FRPP alum DS and a strong but safe Diablo Tune...that's it.

That is true. That is why I also stated that a 4.30 or a 4.56 gear will certainly make up for that little bit of loss.

The Mach is a different engine(different heads/intake and cams) so it is irrelevant to the topic.
