Kicker 600.4 trips ... HELP PLEASE

Hey,
I have a kicker 600.4 pushing two diamond audio component speakers... I am using just the output from two of the channels, leaving the other two unused currently.

the problem is my amp works 50% of the time or less... I have had the amp for 5 years or so now. It almost seems like when i turn the volume down after it trips, the sound is more likely to come back on. also when it trips now the protection light doesn't come on, I believe it used to though.

Sometimes when it trips it comes right back on, other times i will be without sound for a couple of days.

also if it matters, on one of the channels I have only the tweeter from the diamond audio component hooked up because the one speaker is under repair (just throwing it out there, not sure if it needs the same juice going to each channel)

ANY IDEAS?

I dont think its the wiring since I have hooked up the sub amp wires, with the same problem still. and the sub amp works just fine.

when it goes out, are there any light on the amp? The cheap inline chinese fuses are known to internally drop power.Check for power at the amp next time it does it and if theres no power,trace it back.

check your ground wire as well...I know this is such a cheap answer, but I had the same problem on my kicker...ground wire was loose....and I would wiggle it and the amp would come back on...

im pretty sure the wiring is good since i switched it with the sub amp but ill check...

today the speakers keep letting out a chirp sound when the amp is trying to kick on, it does this like 10 times, then stops for a while, then it will usually start up with this chirp sound as the amp trys to kick on.... eventually this leads to the speakers coming back on but not for a while.....

would the fact that only 3 speakers are hooked up have anything to do with this?

I honestly wouldn't think so...I really think you have a loose wire somewhere..go in and really check all of them...and...


HOOK UP THAT 4TH SPEAKER!....

What kind of sound is 3 speakers??? LOL

BRUTAL... it was the amp, I just brought it into a local audio shop and they tested it and $25 later they tell me its no good...


So i just paid $25 for someone to hook it up for 2 minutes, fml

The amp most likely has an overheated lead on the PCB.A lead to a high wattage resistor or transistot got too hot and melted the solder on the PCB,causing an intermittent connection.Do the sniff test on it.Take your nose to all areas of the air vents.Does it smell like hot plastic? Or does it smell like burnt silicon..carbon or laquer? For the latter,that would have a very off,pungent smell.I'm sure you've smelled fried speakers before.Thats the burnt laquer smell.

Imo its probably toast,but If it were me,it would be very much fixable.I would remove the cover and do some inspecting.Since it still does come on every now and then,it may not require a whole lot.It sounds like the protection relay may've cooked.Just because theres a power blocking relay doesn't mean you can't fry something still.I've seen those relays burn out partially on home receivers but the amp still worked.Just the relay tends to go before it can fry the amp.Then again,high frequencies at high power levels can cook an amp without even triggering the protection relay.
