Hi guys. Where can i get just a plain jane new replacement belt tensioner pulley for my '88 5.0 Mustang GT? 50resto and those companies only offer a steeda version which is to "bling" for me. I'd just prefer a black plastic replacement, that would be ideal. Anybody know of any place?!?!? Any help is appreciated!!! :D

Autozone, Checker/O'Reilly's, NAPA, etc.

Seriously, did you even try looking? Not trying to be insulting, I just find it hard to believe that you don't have a big-name auto parts chain out there that would carry something that common and simple.

Did you go to an Autozone and ask for an IDLER pulley for an '88 5.0? There's a TENSIONER pulley on there, but not an IDLER pulley. Most of the idiots they hire for those stores don't know anything other than what they can look up in their computer, so if he only looked for an idler pulley, of course he wouldn't have found anything. :nonono: If that's the case, go back there, try to get a different employee to look up the part for you, and ask for a tensioner pulley, instead. DO NOT let them try to tell you that you can only buy the tensioner and pulley together as a fully assembly - I've had that kind of idiocy pulled on me before at Autozone.

Oh yeah, and don't forget that the bolt on there is a reverse (left-hand) thread.

I live in a small town. We don't have any parts stores for about 35miles. I usually buy all my parts over the internet/phone thats why i asked!

I can't stand O'Reilly's. That place is a damned rip off. I called them for a stock distributor for my car and they wanted $89. I got one at the 'zone for $40.

It's possible that the O'Reilly's dizzy comes with an ignition module already attached. I know that the Autozone ones don't have a module on 'em ... and they also re-use the pickup coil when they "remanufacture" them, which left my notch dead in the water a block from my house and had me pulling out my hair for a week before I figured out the issue. :fuss:

Sorry, but $40 for a simple tensioner pulley is a bit steep. Being unwilling to pay DOUBLE the normal going price for a pulley is not being "cheap," that's just being reasonable. :nono:

Problem solved! Thanks for the help! Ended up ording one from Advance online for $20.00!

For 1 your talking to the wrong guy. Assuming you ment that post towards me(me being the one who made this thread), i didn't complain to anybody except the guy that posted a used one for $40.00. Thats not only expensive, but you would be foolish to pay that considering thats twice what a new part cost. You should read the entire thread before you make posts so you know who your talking to buddy. You might learn a thing or two along the way as well. :Zip2:
