it will catch up with you. or you have a different attitude with your own business

Sorry man, gotta side with V_Eight on this one. Yes, it would be nice if JLT sent him a new tube free of charge. It would also be nice if Ford Motor Company sent me a new Shelby GT500 Free of charge too.

The bottom line is that as "nice" as it would be if they did something for this guy, it’s not their obligation. Nor should they receive poor press for not replacing the tube should they decide not to. In the end, this was not in any way, shape or form JLT's folly. Besides, JLT has a good enough rep in this business that rumors of them not replacing a tube for some guy, who in fact bought the product second had, that neglected to check his shipment for months on end before examining the product, who in the end can't even confirm how the tube got broken in the first place....isn't going to hurt their rep one single bit!

If they did replace if for them.....good for him. To those looking to get something for nothing, it will be looked at as “good customer service” to those of us who don’t believe its JLT’s responsibility, it screams “Man, what suckers these guys are. I can get free stuff from them if I kick up a fuss”.

You questioning the way he does because with his own company because he doesn’t share your opinion in this instance isn't called for. :nonono:

 You dont fix engine parts with glue or duct tape, too much heat and vibration.
One thing thats unclear to me is was it still in the original box that JLT shipped,
and still sealed with the original factory tape??? If so it wasnt bubbled wrapped
very well since it is a special brittle plastic.

I'm the one that shipped this to him.

I never installed it on my car. I opened up the box to make sure nothing was damaged when I got it and to make sure all the needed parts were there. Then it just sat in the the garage for a month. So I sold it. It was packed & wrapped up just like it was to me from JLT. All the bubble wrap you see is what JLT shipped it to me with. I made sure to pack it at least as well as when I got it. That box is the box it came in from JLT. I actually repacked the box twice to reposition some items and make sure nothing hard was hitting up against each other. It's weird that it's such a clean break and there are no marks on the pipe anywhere on the break. That would lead me to the same conclusion as the OP, to crack that clean it had to be pretty cold. PVC isn't exacly a really weak material.

I dont disagree with the fact that he waited to long to open the box. but unless I misunderstood the original post the first owner never opened the box ether. therefore the box still had the original shipping seal and the tube was damage possibly during shipping or at the time of packing. I dont think he is looking for a free hand out and the actual cost of the tube to JLT i'm sure would be minimal to simply satisfy a customer. I deal with this kind of stuff all day at work. my responsibilities are quality control and over seeing customer service. I'm not going to squabble over $20 when i'm trying to make a possible return customer happy. I'll make it up on his next purchase.

As far as questioning how V_Eight runs his business... If my comment offended him I apologize. It was more in reference to his comment of "I wouldn't send you an empty box" Not something I would say to one of my customers. at the time my post was made i was not aware he had his own business and I wasn't questioning it, I made a statement.

Edit: just read that original owner did open the box.

None of your pictures came through.

Who was this purchased from?

Without the pictures I can assume something is damaged? How did it happen?
Shipping? Then who ever you purchased from should put in a claim with the
shipper.
We don't box up damaged goods, so I'm not sure how you can put the blame on
us, when this product has been shipped to a couple different people.

Jared, feel free to send new pictures and call to discuss.

That basically says to me, "We're not responsible, so don't expect anything from us. You can call us and we'll be happy to sell you one."

I do plan to call you but I would like to have you confirm you see the pictures so that you can see exactly what I see.

Honestly I feel like this is a JLT intake no matter who shipped it. I also feel like it's just could customer service to replace the tube because it will be wearing your rubber couplers when I open the hood of my car at car shows, and not UPR or BBK or any other CAI provider. I was told you had a good product so that led to the purchase, now I am having the opposite experience. I would love to brag about your company and your products, so the choice is yours.

The seller used the same box and everything you did to send me this product, it was well packed and upon opening there was no clue the pipe was damaged, as I rached down to pick up the main pipe the end just fell off as you can see in the pictures...I dont have a great reason why, I am just telling you what happened, and I am extremely disappointed.

Please understand I am not a free loader and I am not trying to get something for nothing, but I think its JLT's obligation to replace a broken part especially when the car has not seen one second of service time.

I have a great deal of respect for this hobby and the major contributors, I view you in that respect.

Thank You,
Jared

See, right there is where you lost me. Again, you're placing the blame on JLT when it in no way, shape or form lies with them.

....and quite frankly, you saying you're not expecting something for nothing doesn't make is so just because you state it. You want them to give you/replace a part that you didn't pay them for. How else would you define it? Warranting against manufacture defect is one thing, warranty against mishandling, misuse, carelessness on the part of the buyer or shipper is completely another. If you want to go after anyone to replace this thing, it should be the shipping company that transported it from JLT to the original seller in the first place. And quite frankly, it should be the original seller working with you on that one, not JLT.

I would seriously chalk this up to bad karma and move on. Either glue it back together, buy another one to replace it, or run something else. If they some how miraculously do decide to replace this pipe for you, the go out immediately and buy yourself a lottery ticket.....because the luck/charity fairy is smiling down on you. But if they don't, you'd showing sour grapes by holding it against them makes you a poor consumer, not them the poor merchant.

The fact is the part was paid for, had I stolen the intake I would agree with you, but the intake was paid for, not by me, but by another individual, in either case the intake was PAID for, and thus an implied warranty against opening the box and discovering a broken part.

I am not going to argue with people about it beyond this.

I will say that SOMEONE needs to step up on this, and replace the pipe, primarily I would suggest JLT.

Gearbanger I have read and agreed with many of your posts, but on this issue I am just choosing to respectfully disagree. I hope you don't take this personally as I do have respect for your opinion and your experience.

Thanks,
Jared

Thank you, but an apology isn't necessary. I don't normally take what I say online too seriously unless I am directly representing my business, so some things tend to come out a little... cocky I suppose. Sorry for any grief I've caused by not being as professional as I normally am.

The seller who sold you the intake opened the box up and inspected the items before shipping it to you. If it arrived damaged from the seller to you, then it's the shipping companies fault for damage during transit, which in that case it's not JLT's responsibility to replace it but the seller's to file a claim with the shipping company assuming he got insurance for the package.

+1

But being that the seller shipped this to you several months ago, I think you are SOL. I think most shipping company's you only have like 30 days to file a claim.
