i have some front suspension issues on my 68 mustang. i already solved some of them but i am still having one problem intermitently. i swaped the original front end parts except for tie rods, center link, idler arm,but all control arms strut rods..ect are now all Global west components. the original problem was that the car basicly sat on the ground, way to low to drive or even steer. so i ended up replacing the front springs again to bring up the height and it has, but now when i drive sometimes and hit a few bumps the front end kinda collapses down and gets stuck and brings the front end to the ground like before to where i can no longer drive it until i go over a bump or pull up on the bumper to force it back up where it will then stay but if i drive it again at some point it will do it all over again!.... this is kinda weird..now i had some thoughts in my head of what it would be but im going crazy so any thoughts or ideas would be Great!!!

If your suspension is going down and staying down, then something is definitely wrong. Either the suspension is in a BIG bind somewhere, or you have a bent shock. If it were me, I'd remove the springs and shocks and disconnect the sway bar on each side, then move the suspension through it's full travel with a jack until you find the problem. If it's that bad, you'll find it very easily. While you have the shocks off, carefully inspect each of them for a bent shaft. Whatever is wrong is going to be easy to find and is also dangerous, so I wouldn't drive it until you find the problem. Post pics if you can, and good luck.

as it sits right now it is fine and if i drive it it will prob be fine but sometimes out of no where it will just bottom out per say!. i can compress the front suspension with everything together as i already have done a ton of times and as im doing it i can watch everything move with no problems..each side at a time. when it does bottom out its real easy to notice because if your driving the alignment goes way out and its all over the palce esp. the Toe angles!! u can see the top of the tires go way in towards the fender well the the Camber now becomes an isue too. i thought maybe the cam bolts were moving, but i could not verify. i know that both upper and lower Control arms move free because prior to the spring and shock install i make sure i can move eveything freely by hand without fault

im going to undo the sway bar and see what happens. i just will eventually run out of ideas. just hoping anyone had any other thoughts i misssed. its just odd thats its inter. it sure does sound like bindage but everything i can see and check is good i dont see how a coil spring could bind so ididnt check that. ive had the shocks out numerous times and both shafts look good and move the same as each other. if a shaft were bent it would be more towards one side having the issue but both do it so im thinking it has to be a type of global isuue something that effects both sides of the suspension at all times.

Could be a shock, and it might not be noticably bent. I was driving my moms 84 1/2 mustang once and pulled out of a steep driveway. The Drivers side strut compressed almost all of the way down, and never came back up. Had to drive it home like that and explain what happened. Needless to say i got the job of replacing them. Something came apart inside i guess...

i hear what your saying, but the chances of bothe sides being bad at the same time is pretty minimal and thoses shockes have been in and out a ton in the last 2 months and i looked at them at the time and even compressed them multiple times by hand and didnt feel or see any issues

ok so here it is....... i checked the car out today again i removed the sway bar links and test drove the car and it did ok but that doesnt really mean anything cause it has the problem whenever it feels like. i removed the links because i havent checked the sway bar or bushings for any bindage and the sway bar moves nice and easy. so i removed both front wheels and compressed the suspension both sides individualy and watched it for any signs of AnyThing! and again i find nothing it goes up and down with no problems and returns back just as quick as you let it! at that point i put it back together and drrove it again and i didnt have the issuue again, but at one point in my drive i went over an uneven road surface for about 5 sec. and at just about outlet of it the car pulled hard to the left and at the same time the L/F tire was screeching and hard to correct for 2 sec wich kinda tells me that the L/F was more straight ahead than the left one was...so the Toe angle was out for a brief while which i thought was really odd! this might all be related???:bs:

Sounds like you might have a really bad case of bump steer. It can happen when the geometry of the steering components gets messed up. It will cause the suspension to "hang" in one spot when you hit a bump and you will experience rapid changes in alignment when you hit a bump.

Did you use spindles from another car? What exactly did you do to the steering?
