I want to get rid of the stock fake leather rubber boot. I want something to match my dark charcoal seats and leather Cobra 5-spd knob.

I'm more concerned with actual fit and finish. I love that leather, loose fitting wrinkled look.

Lets see what you got.

This isn't the best picture, but I think you can see the boot. It's from Redline Goods: Shift boot store - RedlineGoods leather shift boots

Stockers here. I actually like the stock fox body shift boot vs. the 94-04 boots. Seems like in the 94--04's when you had a short throw, that the boots are too long. They get scrunched up. I dislike that look.

Mike, mine is a redline goods boot, with a stock 99 GT knob. The coloring doesn't match perfect (I went with the black boot, but they make a lot of colors). Here is a decent photo which shows it. By the way it is real leather, and it looks and feels nice. I also went with the ebrake boot, and for the price it is hard to beat.

Mike, the boot comes as just a boot. I attached mine using tape. Sounds ghetto and hack, but other than an adhesive there is no better way in my eyes. You basically remove the bezel, cut the little tabs off (from the old boot) and adhere the outer edge of the boot to the bottom however you want. I think some silicone would do the job and even keep some possible heat out.

I had that same hurst plate and boot, but mine was a huge POS. The plate's tabs broke off while driving one day, and the boot would never stay in place, it would always come out from under the plate. I really wanted it to be good too, I love the retro look it gives :(

I agree. the tabs are kinda weak and the boot does'nt always stay in place. I fixed the boot problem with some super glue before it got bad. The tabs will break when shifting into 5th or reverse if you use the stock bolts. I just used some shorter bolts and i don't have any problems anymore. I only used it beause i did'nt have a boot and this one has been sitting for year. Not sure where i got it from. A swap meet a belive. I like the look but i really like the long handle. I'm 6'6 6'7 with some wicked monkey arms. I had to move the seat back 2 inches so my legs would not be hitting the steering wheel. the longer handle helps my reach. i looked like quazimoto driving with the short handles.

Weird, I'm 6'2 with the seat nearly all the way back, and I think the handle is still too far forward. But thats more of an issue with the Mustangs ergonomics rather than the shifter itself. Its got good placement as far as height goes, but I could use it another 4" back from where it is. I might end up buying another Hurst handle with more of a bend so I can put it where I want.
