horn and turn signal problem

65 Ford Mustang convertible.

My horn does not work. I tested it by running a jump wire from the horn to the battery and the actual horn works so I assume the problem is in the steering wheel. Also, my turn signals work but have to be shut off manually. They don't "click" off automatically after you make a turn. Somebody told me these two problems could be related and have something to do with the steering wheel being put on wrong.

Can anybody help me fix this? I need to get an inspection sticker by the end of the month and the horn will be a problem.

Almost certainly the turn signal switch is the problem. The cancelling part is usually due to the arms breaking off the switch, but sometimes aftermarket wheels lack the pins to trip them.

Did these just start being a problem and at the same time? Have you had the wheel off recently and/or the column loosened?

On my '65, I loosened the bracket under the dash that holds the column because my tach wire was under it. Anyway, the column moved down the shaft a bit. Not a lot, but enough for the pins to not trip the turn signal lever to cancel and for the horn contacts to no longer touch the contacts on the steering wheel hub.

It's worth a look.
