Has anyone seen the recent edition of Motor Trend? The feature article comparing the Mustang, charger and camaro? Well, approx 6 paragraphs in the article criticizes our car again. i thought we aere passed all that. The suprising issue to me was the fact that Motor trend in its day mentioned in their feature cover story article that "the snake was back" and how tremendous it was...seems publishers can be brainwashed as well.

Just really disappointed reading this as i waited for wisdom tooth surgery and to have that on my mind at 8:00AM.

That always seems to come up. They never talk about 150 horse camaros and the 170 horse corvettes plus those cars weighed more then ours. They make it sound like those cars were so fast. It doesnt matter though, I love my mustang II. Besides if they didnt have the mustang II there would be no cool 2010 mustang to talk about. Alot of people dont understand that especially magazines.

They criticized themselves for their original issue in '76. They were describing our car as "anemic", and placed more salt in the wound by mentioning "the only time the mustang II looked good was when Farrah Fawcett was driving it and you had your eyes closed" :jaw:

What the f*** was that?

They even further mentioned they supported all mustangs with the exception being ours.

Anyway, I attended a car show last weekend as was wondering what type of comments would be said by the attendees looking at the car...well as luck has it, I didn't hear any negativity at all. Maybe they just didn't get to tread the new issue yet. :nonono:

People who've driven a II say they were a interesting and neat car, people who've owned a II say the same thing except those people seem to say it with a wistful look and small smile of regreat for no longer owning one.

What can you say, some people allow others to do their thinking for them.

I got tired of the :BS: a looong time ago, it is what it is and since it's not "theirs" it doesn't matter.

I think if there is a resurgence of anti-II sentiment it may be that in '05 Ford made the Mustang look like a Mustang again and golly, it looks like a II. Least allot more like a II than the crap styling of 79-04.

I guess Motor Trend is trying to pull a trick, if they somehow marginalize the II people will somehow not see the similarities between the II and the New and the New will be seen as New and not Retro to the II, and if the New is seen as new it can be seen as an outgrowth of those 26 years of Crap styling and not turning the clock back to the II.

I think I wrote that right. ;)

Wart! how have you been? great to hear from you! I believe you couldn't have said it any better. If you remember anything about me at all, it should be that I have fought this attitude since day 1 of owning one of these. And I completely agree with your views. Hmmm, one question could be, how fast can someone replace the water pump in a II as compared to a 2005?

Although I must say i truly like the style of the 2005....because of my love for our II's.

THen I guess I wrote it right. ;)

If you remember anything about me at all,

Not at all .... I only sold you a set of wheel well trim a few years back, and you threw out the screws but retrieved them from the dumpster before the garbage man showed up ... you paid and left positive Feedback in a timely manner, Thanks :nice:

And your still looking for those white cargo panels. :rlaugh: Good luck with that.

it should be that I have fought this attitude since day 1 of owning one of these. And I completely agree with your views.

Why fight it?

Be a rock in the stream and let it flow around you.

I don't remember when you got your II, recently I believe. I got my first II new in Feb of '78, I burnt out on the "fight' a long time ago and that stream will never stop flowing.

Hmmm, one question could be, how fast can someone replace the water pump in a II as compared to a 2005?

In the day it was a PITA, I don't even want to think of touching something new.

Motor Trend.... isn't that a 'has been'magazine?? I don't think I'd even use that trash to line the bottom of a bird cage.

I'll tell you what. My poor fastback is so beat up from the years of strage and irrational carnage yet, embarrased of its looks, I took it out on the road the other day and got a few thumbs up and alot of interesting stares. I've never ran into an individal that hasn't liked my II in some sort of way or another. So I have no idea where these retard journalists from Motortrand are getting their info. Hell, this car won Car of the Year in '74 did in not?? And wasn't it THEM handing out those rewards???

I like my II and even in it's poor visable shape it's in, I still get compliments and positive feedback about IIs in general from most everyone. About the only crowd that seem to knock them are the feeble minded pre-70 Mustang nerds. Even the 71-73 brothers feel some of our pain by being dubbed the 'porker' stangs.

When I take my II out I get alot of attention with it. The II is the most unseen out of the mustangs even though they made a ton so when people see it they are drawn to them. motortrend sucks I never liked there mag plus dont they cater to gm or is that car and driver. One or both always complained about fords new products.

I could care less about what a mag says about my Cobra II. I love my car, it;s almost 100% date correct parts, stock suspension and 4 speed and the fact it's one of under 800 with the color and options. When Motor trend pays for my car then they can have an opinion I care about. My car has been to two shows (Valley Forge Mustang Club sponsored show , and all Ford at Carlisle) and I have gotten NOTHING but positive responses. I'll continue to drive it, show it, and love it, screw MT.

Even as rough as my coupe looked the last time I had it on the road, I passed a couple of teenagers and all I heard from them was "Coooool!". MT is definately a "has-been" mag.

The 2005-2009 Mustang really does look a lot like a MII, but its mainly because a MII looks like a Mustang. I still reserve judgement on the 2010 tail end! ;)

The ironic thing is that with the upcoming fuel mileage restrictions, and the likely return to $3/gal gas in the next few years, the Mustang WILL get smaller and lighter again. If it still looks like a Mustang, it will look like a Mustang II, and it will be nearly the same size! :D

My '75 Camaro Type LT w/ 350 2bbl.(my first car) wouldn't get out of it's own way.
GT

Yeah, this one time I took one down using either a screwdriver or a wrench as a shifter, a fact one friend reminded me of for years (I had broken the shift rod).

About Car Craft,

It's been years since I read a car rag. This morning Wife was in the hospital for a test (Rump Rangered, nothing serious). There were both a Road and Track and Car and Driver, mid of top tier and bottom second tier publications respectively.

C&D had a comparason of hte Cuda, Camero and Mustang, R&T reviewed the GT 500 Convertible.

While both publications used many of the same mechanism to convey their message R&T was written tighter and had a more technical flavor where C&D drifted into simile and analogy bordering on hyperbole.

Where R&T has always been aloof and had a superior air about it they have never really been denigrating, C&D gave me many WTF moments where they were disparage and insulting, at least borderline so.

In short C&D aims itself to a lower class of people, mayhaps so does CC?

Car Craft and Street Rodder are the two I subscribe to. Car Craft (that I can recall) hasn't beaten up on the II but rather featured small stories about the Monroe handler and the Roush 460 powered hatchbacks. That's alot more than most rags will give the II.
