I have a 2009 mustang gt. Have any of you guys took out the stock air box and just clamped on a filter and made you own heat shiled and braket??? I figure as long as I keep the stock intake tube, it shouldnt need a tune?

I was just wondering if anybody has done it, they say a intake is worth around 7 rear world HP? I am just looking to do something cheap cause i know all the power is intake plus tuner. But I dont want to spend that kind of money when gears are really what i would need first.

basically you will just be changing the filter type. More than likely you won't notice a gain in power, though on the other hand if you get a kn type you can clean it and reuse it. That will save you from getting hit in the head for $45 dollars every time your car needs a new air filter.

A clamp on cone filter can also be reused by cleaning and re-oiling it with a K&N kit.

Gotcha, so there really isnt any power that is worth anything from a intake then. Maybe I will just go with a drop in K and N. The inlet of the airbox just looks so small LOL. I did homemade ram air on my 2002 Gt, but they werent sensative to getting too much air either.:nice:

A lot of the restriction of the stock setup is in the stock inlet tube, small and bendy. A larger filter with a good heat shield would probably net a few HP, but not near as much as an aftermarket CAI and tune.

I think it would be a wise idea to get an engineered tuned system like from K&N or one of the others.

Making the air box (heat shield) is pretty easy, I had to make one for my 05' a of couple years ago because of a custom application.

Just man up and get a CAI and tune and enjoy 25 hp or do something ghetto and get nothing but a ghetto look for your car.

i agree. dont be cheap. get a CAI/tune combo. these mustangs are real touchy with the computer, if you try and do some chop shop modding it'll throw a code, or it wont give you any notable hp.

I did the drop in...

Very impressed! The butt dyno read about maybe 5rwhp, but the throttle response increase was the most noticeable.

And I now get 18-19mpg CITY ONLY! :hail2: (Yes, I have a GT!!!)
