My dad is jsut finishing up the resto-modding of his 65 mustang. To my knowlege it will be 1-2" lower in front than the factory sky high look and stock to 1" lower in the back. He picked up some 17x8" Eleanor style wheels for it.

What size tires should he run?

I was thinking a 245/45/17 like on the factory 1994+ cars with a 17x8" wheel...

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!!!

In the front I would HIGHLY suggest running a 225 wide tire. I'm running 235's in the front on 17x8 Bullitt rims and I had some rubbing when turning that could only be fixed by rolling the fenders. In the rear though is a different story. I would say with proper spacing you can go as wide as a 255 or maybe even 265 if you can space the rim properly. I would say though in the rear anything wider than 245 and you might have to roll the lip.

I really don't know about that handling comment when you're only running tires that are 10mm different in size. I could see when running skinnies in front and slicks in back but for a car that isn't daily driven I don't think different widths are going to affect handling THAT much. As far as rotating the tires goes I can see your point there if it's a daily driven car so I'll give you that one.

Ya, 10mm is not too critical, but by that same logic, doesn't help much, either. I just don't like the idea of having wider tires on the much lighter rear of the car, things can get squirrley real fast if you hit wet pavement on a curve. Depends a lot on how you drive, where you drive, and if it's a daily driver or just goes to cruise night. :flag:
