Before I get in trouble I have checked out the sticky and lots of other cars are runnign an x-pipe and axle backs and don't sound anything like mine does.

Ok I recently bought my 05 Gt and it had Magnaflow axle back exhaust on it and sounded not to bad, just really quiet. So to loud it up I bought a Dynomax x pipe for the car with no cats. I installed the x-pipe and fired the car up, and now it sounds like an import at about 3000 to 4800 rpm. It has a terrible kind of import like sound to it between those rpms and I am wondering have the mufflers let go inside and are rattleing or what. I had a 95 Gt with an x-pipe and flowmaster exhaust before this car and I loved the sound. The 05 does not sound very good right now and I was wondering what other people have found with their cars.

Sorry to hear you're having troubles. I LOVE the sound of my Magnaflow mufflers. But I agree that they are a little quiet.

Unfortunately, that's just the way the S197's are. It definitely isn't as easy to get them to sound mean as the older 5.0's. I think the problem is your Dynomax X-pipe. I think Dynomax stuff is crap. I had some Super Turbo mufflers on my 92 and they droned like a son of a bitch. I replaced them with Magnaflow's after about a week and I've been a Magnaflow guy ever since.

X pipe is your problem. I have the Magnaflow street mufflers with an off road H and it sounds awesome. Still a bit tame for my liking, but has a great sound.

Some people like the X pipes. Honestly, I don't. I haven't heard any in person that I liked. I tried it with the straight through Magnaflows with my Cervini kit on my '05 and it trumpeted and droned wayyy too much. On the other hand, I've tried the H with 3 sets of mufflers, and have been happy with the sound every time. I LOVED it with my Pypes Violators, but they were just a bit too loud for local law enforcement.

Here's the most recent video of it. I'm hoping to get a new camera in a few weeks, so hopefully I can get some better video of it. All of my track video is in car.

+1 on the catless X Pipe.

X Pipes sound nice if you like a mellow more exotic tone however they will be even more likely to sound tinny and raspy at high rpm compared to an H-pipe without the cats.

I guess your best bet would be to change your mufflers especially if you have chambered mufflers to a straight through design or to add some resonators somewhere and or make a midpipe system.

If I had to change on my car I'd go for a prochamber. Best of both world sound wise.

Straight through mufflers have sort of an import sound anyway.

I would call it exotic though instead of ricey.

If you want the more muscle car sound you need chambered mufflers but they don't sound nearly as good on the s197 as they did on the sn95.

I think straight through mufflers like magnaflow and borla sound the best on these cars. I like a more exotic sound, it really sets you apart from all the V8 pickup trucks and other cars with flowmasters.

I had a 1998 GT with offroad H and 40 series flowmasters and loved it but I like my Borla setup on the 06 even better.
