cobra: 94-95 or 96-98

im a die hard 5.0 man but i agree as well,188k chassis i gonna be funked, mine has 120k and is lookin kinda down as well, and if it comes to knowledge, buying the 4.6 would force your to learn about something new, so it would come out to do you want to get smarter or just play with the old 5.0's (its early and sounded good when i typed it)

i wouldn't be offroading the car, and for the short distance i'd drive, if worst case scenario would happen i would be close by. guy has driven it with the motor the way it is for 50k miles, i specifically asked about the struts and he said the suspension is in good of condition as the body  for the price i'm getting i think it's a fair deal...

i'll agree with what is being said here... if i were to daily drive a car from these two eras... it would be a 96-98 (even convertible maybe)... but i dream of the day when i can get a white 94-95 and make my own Cobra R replica (to match my 93) but with modern parts :)

I know at this point you probably have the 95 already and if you do i wish you luck

If not, I will repeat what I said in the other thread...96-98 all the way.

I didnt realize in the other thread that you wanted to DD this car. Unless I had a back up vehicle, I would not DD an H/C/I car...at least not when I could have the 4V 4.6 to DD instead. The 95 will also drink A LOT more gas than the stock 4.6. I would also be willing to guess that even with that H/C/I, the 95 may have a marginal edge at best over the 4V on power. Not to mention how much better and nicer the 4.6 will be from a drivability/comfort standpoint.

About 7 years ago when I was actively looking for an SN95 Cobra, once I looked at the 97 I ended up buying, the even cleaner, lower mileage 95 became an afterthought.

drove 5 hours from missouri to get my snake, got great mileage. right now sounds like a dumptruck tho bc he took his magnaflows off bc he got 2 tickets for loud exhaust in the past. not to mention it comes straight out of the stock mufflers with no tailpipes. im prob goin with either magnaflow or dynomax mufflers and tailpipes...quiet it down a bit but not too much. has stock gears in it too but still threw me back in my seat, i can say i'm pleased. suspension was all replaced at 157xxx on the chassis and i have the receipts to prove it. thanks for the input tho guys.

thanks. first thing i'm doing is definitely some 373s (or does anyone recommend 355s?) and some magnaflows and tailpipes. have to say the drive home was pleasant bc of the a/c (that my notch doesnt have) and the mach 460 stereo that completely slipped my mind until i sat in the car upon looking it over. the body needs some tlc, there are some nics from a hailstorm but nothing major, all tiny. the king cobra clutch is something to get used to, too, i almost forgot how stiff those were until i pressed down on it. and as far as the tranny goes, did the 95 cobras come with a t5 or a t5z? thanks

3.73 would be the better gear to go with. :nice: Also the Centerforce has a much nicer pedal to it and more clamping force than the KC clutch. Everyone I know that has had the KC clutch says how rediculously heavy it is. :notnice:

As far as the trans, IDK what a T5Z is. Never heard of it. All I know is the 96s got the T-45 which I liked much more then the T-5

T-5Z is an aftermarket trans. No Mustang came with it stock.

The Cobras do get a different T-5 than the GT. It has a revised pocket bearing design and slightly stronger, but still a 3.35 1st gear trans.

The t-5Z has a 2.95 1st gear

okay, thanks. yeah i was leaning towards 373s anyway, especially since i don't plan on doing anything else to the car and making it unstreetable, right now i seriously cannot get the stock mufflers off fast enough, if you'd close your eyes, from 1k-2500 rpms it sounds like a dump truck. thanks for the help on the tranny, i was told that 93 cobras came with a t5z, so i did not know if the 94-5s did too, guess none of them do. and yes the centerforce feels worlds better than a KC, but for the pita it is to change a clutch i'll just ride this one out...

awesome.i wanna see some pics.i just got myself a 94 cobra.but it is not modded as much as yours is.
im with you i would have gotten the 5.0 also.
im just not that big into 4.6s

sent youa PM diponyou.
like i said i like the dohc motor but do not wanna leave my comfort zone. as soon as i put my o/r x on it it confirmed what i thought, that a 5.0 with a mild cam at idle sounds b-b-b-b-bad.
