Which intake would you choose

Here is what I have now.

1987 LX Coupe, 5.0 with 5 speed.

Engine is totally stock
Exhaust has off-road h-pipe.
Eventually will be adding a Paxton 1220SL

Here is my question.

Which intake would you put on this car?

A 1996 Explorer GT-40 Intake?

or

a Edelbrock Mustang Performer Intake, Part # 3821?

If possible, please list your reasoning on why you would pick one over the other.

Thanks!

Looks like most people prefer the Edelbrock Performer Intake (Part # 3821) right now. Is that particular intake a plug and play install, i.e. remove the stock upper and lower and install the Edelbrock upper & lower? Are there any holes that need to be driller for anything???

If you can get a real gt40 at a decent price, go for it.
It's a great all around intake, not to mention it's by far the best looking intake.

The GT-40 if for no other reason than the ports on the Edelbrock are huge compared to the ports on the E7 heads your totally stock car has. Even with a blower the mismatched ports are going to cost big power. The GT-40 ports are significantly closer in size to the E7 ports.

No they're not. I just recently swapped an Edelbrock Performer 3821 intake ($182 from ebay + $100 for the TFS elbow) in place of the stock intake in my Stang, and I can tell you that the E7 intake ports and the Performer's lower runners are the same size. The runner diameter in the upper is bigger and it tapers down into the lower.
I gained 15rwhp/7rwtq with the intake swap but even better was that I also gained torque in the low/midrange (2200-3000rpm). This resulted in a 0.2sec and 1.7mph gain to the 1/4 mile.

I put a cobra intake (orginal 93) on my car that already had stock longblock, pulleys, c&l 76mm maf and tube, full offroad exhaust headers back(x-pipe, magnflow). I picked up 15whp, and 15wtq. avg above 4400rpms was 13whp and 14wtq below 4400 it was about 7whp 6wtq
