I recently purchased a 1988 SSP Notchback today. Its a little rough but good. I just cant get the car to drive. The guy said that the cable in the auto trans was not aligned or broken? Is it better just to swap in a T-5 Trans intead?

If you mean the throttle cable, you will either have to get a gauge to set the cable correctly or have a shop do it mine cost about 50 when I had them do it. As for as the switch it is up you which tranny you want. With an auto you could do a shift kit, stall converter, etc. or if you like to shift yourself switch to a manual. I prefer the auto because I drive a lot in traffic and like not having to up and down shift all the time.

Mustang SSP Notchback Transmission???

I just had a mechanic stop by and check out the car and see if the Transmission was broken. He said it was and was gonna charge $700.00 to repair. But just last night I thought maybe the shift linkage on the AOD Trans was busted. I came to this conclusion because when I start the car and shift into reverse the backup lights don't go on!?!?!?! Could this be it? Can Someone Help?

Does the car move backwards in rev and the lights just don't come on. Also did the mech. say what was wrong with the tranny. Sometimes you can get a rebuilt AOD for 300, at least locally for me. Mine might be on its way out (making SHHH sounds when shifting at high rpms)

No...Nothing happens when you shift into reverse its like nothing is moving. No transmission sounds at all. Even if the tranny was broken if I were to put it in reverse the back up lights should go on ...right?

Could be the input shaft (common problem with AOD input shaft will break since it is a two piece shaft) or torque converter(might be stripped out), I am pretty sure the lights should come on, if I am wrong someone correct me.
