Hurst Shifter Question

Just bought a Hurst shifter for my 08GT and the insturctions for the install say when reconnecting the shift rod linkage the offset (long side) should face the right (passenger side), but when reading some links and articles they are saying to have the short side face the passenger side. Are the instructions wrong?

It's been a while since I replaced mine but the linkage went on the same way it came off. I think it faced the drivers side but I can't verify it for sure, my MGW instructions don't say which way it is supposed to go.

Thanks Steel Horse, I also talked with a performance shop today and they said the same thing. Yeah, my buddy was in to much of a hurry and when I was under the car removing all of the nuts and bolts he started removing the shifter before I could verify which way the off set was facing.

Intalling the Hurst Shifter is very easy, it all goes back on the way it came off is the bottomline. The upper support shifter mechanism rod, rigid, goes to the drivers side of the transmission but to the right side of the aluminum threaded boss. The shifter linkage (one arm) goes back on the way the old one came off. Trickiest part is getting the old shifter out from the top and getting the hurst back down the console hole. Just take your time; Other important thing to remember is the metal insert that you need to transfer from the factory shifter (rigid member) to the hurst shifter).
