i got aluminum heads on my new car, the guy said they are trickflows. they have NO markings at all, so i just did some internet searching. i found some people with casting numbers. sn "xxxx" casting number.

i went to the same spot on my heads, inbetween 2nd and 3rd exhaust port, same spot, and i have casting #sn18786

so with that, is this a trickflow head? has anyone confirmed that one of these unmarked castings, is infact a TF head with the sn casting number?

Your heads should have the Trick Flow logo like the ones in my picture. Not sure about casting numbers, my car isn't here at the moment or i'd go out and look for you.

heads are on the car, but i have this pic of the car when i first got it;

doesnt show a ton, but.... the casting numbers are the same spot, ports look identical, head looks identical down to stud mount, with the pedestal for them at a slight angle.

there were 2 or 3 guys on one post i found here, who said it was just old tfs castings. only difference with them being, no name on the end. the car runs strong, with the stock cam still, so i know they are good heads. im just wanting to clarify for a cam purchase im making tonight.

ill get more pics later from my harddrive if you want?

was there any difference in the performance of these heads over the newer style?

TFS cylinder heads keep making improvements with every generation they put out with the Twisted Wedges.
IMO, yes, the newer style perform better than the older ones.

TFS now makes the "Fast as Cast" version of the TWs.

There are also the "Porters Cast" heads, which can be made far superior to OOTB TFS Street Heats and Twisted Wedges which have been professionally ported.

You will need to find the P/N on your heads, or you won't know what they are (i do know they're TWs though). Since they're used, they may have been decked to reduce the combustion cc's. I suggest you run some cylinder pressure tests to see where you are.

:nice: only number on the head is listed above. sn18786.

i figured there would be improvements made with time. however, being that they are trickflows im happy with that. by the time i pulled these off, sold them, paid the $500 + difference for new tf/afr heads, i may as well just buy the blower i want.

my goal is low 400 rwhp, once i drop my e-cam in, with this combo it should be 320ish rwhp. hopefully it holds me over for a bit. getting burnt out on wrenching.

Please run something other than a alphabet camshaft. Not being mean just trying to help :flag:

Agreed! With the wide selection of dual pattern and custom grinds available today, there's not excuse to spend all that time and money on an engine now a days, just to skimp out on the bump stick because its a cheaper alternative and promises a lumpy idle.

if you already have the e-cam stick with it, thats a great cam and with a goal of 400ish RWHP, it will work just fine. you can argue with results, yea there old tech but who cares...

Or you could call one of the many custom cam guys, let them talk you into a billet core camshaft, different springs, a billet timing chain, and spend way north of 600 bucks...

Also, call up trick flow with that casting number, those guys are great... ive called them a few times with problems i was having with my intake, they took plenty of time with me, and even put me on the phone with one of thire Machinists. Great customer service and they really know thier stuff inside and out.

A Off The Shelf Comp Cams Camshaft will be around the same price and destory a FRPP Camshaft, Why make your goal the hard way with a crappy camshaft, than to easiley get your goal and then some with a better cam for the same price. I havent ever heard anyone complain with a little over there goal.

he already has the e-cam, so its not the same price its an added expense.

And answer this, whats so difficult about making 400rwhp with any cam? You could do it with a stocker

yep, car has every bolt-in, electric fans, blah blah but stock camshaft.

i think an e-cam will suite me fine for the time being. unless summit has something incredible i can exchange the e-cam towards?

I suggest sending TrickFlow an email with the number you found. They were pretty helpful when I was trying to verify that my old un-marked heads were TW castings.

The only issue I can think of with the older stuff, is that some castings had issues with the valve guides/seals. Don't recall the specifics, so I'm hesitant to get into more detail... but it was easily solved IF YOU HAVE A GOOD MACHINE SHOP.
I didn't...

If it were me,
I would sell off the e-cam and call a custom cam guy. This way, you will also know that you have the right springs for the cam, and you will have much better customer support than what you will get from Summit...
If it were me.......
