94 mustang with 306 dss block, edelbrock heads, e303 cam, vortech v3, cobra intake, full exhaust [longtubes offroad x] 3.73 gears, 28 inch slicks.

blew the trans in it. rebuilt t-5 astro performance.

what is a good solid trans that we will not have to worry about replacing every time we slam gears?

looking into tko series, or built t-5, wanting something to able stand high amounts of horsepower, so we have some room to play.

thanks.

i have a T-3550 which is the old TKO500 tranny. it was common to bend the tail shafts and they still had the 10-spline input shafts. I would either look into a TKO600 with that combo. it should give you some room to grow.

BTW, is that your old car that you sold to your brother?

I have a TKO 600 in mine and it shifts solid and doesn't give me any grief when I'm slamming through gears.

I have no experience with the previously mentioned T-56 Magnum transmission, but that's pretty pricey around $2,800, when you can get the TKO for about $500 less. I suppose it would also depend on what your power goals were.

Also remember when stepping away from the T5 you run into 26 spline input shafts and 31 spline output shafts which mean a new clutch and either a slip yoke or new aluminum driveshaft :D

ok i have a tko 500 in my 94 cobra i love it best trans i have ever had still need a new yoke for the drive shaft and a spacer for the rearend part of drive shaft the tko is short then the t5

If you are looking for something in a reasonable budget, I would look for a used or rebuilt 3550. It will fit with the clutch you have now, and if you want to upgrade it later, you can change the input shaft out. The 26 spline output shaft is $128. You will need to get a different bellhousing for it. Here is an example.
