i have a '66 coupe that i'm putting a dash from a 99-04 into. the motor i have in the car is a 91 5.0 and an AOD with fuel injection from the same year. would i be able to use the gauges from the 99-04 with this, or are the sensors tied into the ECU? can i buy different sensors that are compatible for the gauges (oil pressure, water temp, fuel, tac, and speedo?) i think i remember seeing different sensors for like autometers and such, but i'd really like to be able to retrofit the gauge cluster in as well just because it fits so nicely in the dash.

thanks

You might be able to do it, but you'd have to figure out what to do about the digital odometer. If you went with a 94-98 cluster, you'll get a mechanical odometer. 94-95 and 96-98 have a little bit different wiring, so you'd have to repin the harness a little where it attaches to the cluster. If I search around for a bit, I might even be able to find you a diagram that tells what changed between the two. There was one floating around in 94-95 Tech a couple years ago.

would i be able to just harvest a temp and oil sensor from a 94-95? i would assume the tach is just wired into the coil, so that shouldn't be a problem, i just need a schematic of the pinout on the back of the cluster. the fuel gauge though . . . i would like to find a way to get it to work with the factory tank/sending unit. it's just based on resistance i believe, so i think i would need to know the full/empty resistance from the '66 and the 94-95, right?
