mines has been doing the same thing for a while..i changed the fluid and it still does it. it does it if its in drive and when i pull it to first and stops once it gets over like 15 mph or shifts to second. it looks to me it might be a common problem. o and i have almost 110k miles on it

I bought the car a little over 4 months ago. I have no idea what kind of maintenance the previous owner performed on the car. The Ford dealership I bought it from did change things like the oil and such but I doubt they messed with the transmission. I have another 200 miles to go before my next oil change. At that time Im going to flush the tranny and refill to see if that helps.

The most probable cause is valve body noise. 4R's have a tendency not to be the quietest in that sense and tend to get louder with aftermarket vavlebodies like manuals. Of course, noise is more likely when worn parts become impediments - so make sure to use the correct fluid (Mercon V) and to check the fluid with each oil change for level, color, and smell. Other than that it seems to be a common symptom for many, and shouldn't be a huge concern.
