Ticking noise that increases with RPM + Running to hot

Mine did the SAME thing and it ended up bein a WICKED bubble in the system. I had to jack the car up to try and make the heater core the lowest part of the system to try and coax the bubble out. She would erupt like a gyser and then ide fill it back up, erupt, fill back up time and time again, then finally she gave up and was perfect ever since! I also put in an aftermarket gauge and realized the stock gauge was WAY off. Best of luck with it, hopefully your tickin noise isnt the same one I was hearin shortly before the motor gave up!

I was reading that article posted below and it talked about drilling a small hole in your thermostat. I know they already have a small one in them but made me realize if you dont line that little hole towards the top of the housing you might have a little trouble bleeding out your system... You think im on the right track or is this something i should have known?

Also where/how did you install your aftermarket gauge?
Thanks

Sometimes there is an extra spot on the lower intake, where you can put another guage, or the mechanical gauge, but you said you think your's is mechanical so you should be fine with that! I wonder if one of your head gaskets was leaking, I know you said they look good, but it could have been something like that. Curious to see when you get it back together if it still overheats. You could be lucky? Who knows? I hope your block isn't cracked.

Im betting its not. I am starting to think that I might have had my thermostat in with the bleed hole towards the bottom of the motor which created a air pocket. So know I am going to drill a 1/8" hole in my thermostat at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock like one of these guys recommended cause it makes alot of sense to me.

Have you checked the fan?

I have a 2003 and a similar noise. I thought it was valves when I first heard it, but it started fine and then the noise would kick in. I realized the noise "clutched" in and out. Turns out the factory electric fan spun some bearings. Of course without the electric fan at idle the car would start to run hot, but at speed was fine. The fan eventually blew the 50A fuse, so I'd check it as well.

if your header gasket is messed up then you might want to have your header looked at to make sure its not warped. i had an exhaust leak and replaced the gasket twice before i thought to take the header to a machine shop and have them check it out for me. also it had no affect on the temp so if you say its an exhaust leak then its not relates to the temp prob. good luck.

Conclusion- it ended up being my header gasket. A few of the bolts came a little loose so i tighted them back up not knowing the gasket was ****ed. It had a bunch of little holes in it. But replaced it and solved the ticking noise. Thanks Stangnet

Been having almost the exact same issue with my 90 has a slight tick an overheats like crazy replace all cooling system doing the contour fan upgrade soon to see if it was my ol e fan not doing it's job. Everyone I talk to swears it's a cracked head but the things oil is perfect no traces of coolant at all

Man if I just got done battling a overheating problem myself. Replaced the whole cooling system and rebuilt the top half of my motor to find out I still had a cooling problem. I would go rent a cooling system pressure tester from oriellys or auto zone for like a $100 bucks and just take it back when you done with it.
You just take your radiator cap off and put this pump like cap on and pump it up to 14-16 psi and look leaks and see how long it holds pressure. That was how I noticed I had a few tiny leaks that before I didnt notice. Our cooling systems work like a shop vac they have to be sealed to work. If you have a small leak you will have poor coolant flow through your motor.
