I need your opinion on a good clutch replacement for my GT.

Mine is going out with a defective pressure plate at 30K miles and Ford doesn't want to warranty the part.

I was thinking about a Fidanza 2.1 with a matching Lightweight Aluminium flywheel.

In the same price range are the Ram HDX and the Spec Stage 1.

What do you guys think?

Yeah I know but at 30K and my conservative driving that's pretty much ridiculous though. I laughed at the service manager wanting to sell me a replacement Ford part for $800.

30K miles for $800 bucks is not acceptable.

For that money I at least gotta see a lightweight flywheel on.

Looks like I can pick up a nice flywheel from McLeod for cheap (aluminium type), how about mating it to a Ram HDX?

I'm looking to have about 400HP with this car that leaves me a margin of safety of 50HP with that clutch.

My pressure plate failed at 18K miles. It took out the TOB as well, but i didn't notice the pressure plate when I changed the TOB. worked fine for a week and started doing it again. I pulled the tranny a second time. the TOB was good , but noticed the pressure plate. Installed a SPEC Stage 2+ clutch and pressure plate. What a POS. I ordered the RAM HDX clutch kit, installed it and haven't looked back. Feels just like stock. I highly recommend it.

for that same 800 i'd get a mcleod...i'll be in the market before long as well...the only spec i've read anything good about is the stage 3+. I've heard bang for hte buck that ram is fine and of course mcleod i've read the best about but also comes with the price tag. I'm kinda leaning towards ram but you people using it are you running hte stock throwout bearing?

When you installed the HDX did the pressure plate have the same mounting spots and dowel pins if any as the stock unit? Did you re-install it on your stock flywheel?

Thanks!

A lot has been said about the merits of a lightweight one piece aluminium driveshaft and performance gains of those. The 20-30 lb weight loss in rotating mass does wonders to our cars.

What about the flywheel though? How much do the stock weigh? I've seen lightweight units come in at about 15lb. It would be interesting to know what the weight loss is.

Just picture Flywheel + Driveshaft + UD Pulleys.

What's the balance like on the flywheels for these cars? Do they require weights or are the engines internally balanced so that that isn't necessary?

Thanks just trying to do this right.

EDIT: Ok I got the Mcleod Aluminium Flywheel 563401. Works with stock and stock like design clutches for 6 bolt Mustang cranks.

I'm probably going to go with the Ram HDX unless there's a better clutch out there. I was looking at the Fidanza 2.1 which looks good but I thought I read it only holds up to 355 lb/ft of torque vs Ram's 450.
