Getting a T5z built and wondering if a Billet Cluster Support Plate would be a good idea to add? I know it wouldn't be bad, but is it needed? Its going to sit behind a 351w ~450hp and 3.25 gears. Will be street driven, not raced. Builder says no extra charge to install just pay for Support Plate.
Would you guys add it or just pass?

Well, the billet cluster plates are suppose to provided added strength; whether it does that I am not sure.

However, if you're going to throw ~450hp behind a Z spec turning 3.25's, then I would do it. The plate should cost around $50, and since you're putting an already high amount of power behind that little z spec, you need all the strength you can get.

is it for 450 to the wheels? or what. either way i don't see why it would be a bad idea at all as you already said. i guess how Much is it is really the good question for me. if it's 50 bucks like 67 said, then i'de say that is some cheap additional insurance.

The $50 is not my concern.. I wanted to know if the cluster support plate really makes a diffrence. I guess it just one of those things you either believe or not. Im just going to go with it.

As rebel said, the fact that the piece is billet makes it strong then a casting. However, it could all be a moot point if you blow out third gear or twist your input shaft.

The way I look at it is if you're spending, say $1,500 for a z spec, then were are talking about something that costs 3.33% of the transmission. It might (and probably will) not make a difference, but since you're putting more power then that z spec was made for, I'd give it every chance you can.:D
