Thinking about getting a GT500 Throttle body?

Well I am buying some parts to add a little horsepower to my car. The parts that I am thinking about doing is a CAI and tune (C&L w/SCT tuner), underdrive pulleys, 3.73 gears, and a MGW short throw shifter. I debating on getting the GT500 Throttle body with the adapter plate but i have heard some horror stories about putting throttle bodies on our cars. Is it worth it or should I stay clear?:shrug::shrug:

Oh yeah the GT500 throttle body with adapter plate that I am looking at is offered by Metco.

I'm no expert on this motor, but I have been reading quite a bit of the various forums.

You're off to a good start with the afore mentioned mods. :nice:
At this point though, I don't believe the GT500 TB is going to give you too much, HP wise. If you were going F/I, it would, but N/A, I don't think so. Probably other mods you could buy would be more helpful, like LCA's, to keep your new found power on the pavement?

I'm sure more knowledgeable folks will chime in.

The horror stories are with the aftermarket TB's, the GT-500 and other FRPP ones come with electronics and are already calibrated that's why they are so expensive. As for power it make a noticeable different on my car but you will need to get a tune to optimize performance, they wont give you much HP until either a turbo/supercharger are installed or cams etc...

+ on the tune. An aftermarket throttle won't give you much power unless you tune for its CFM characteristics. I think FRPP came out with a straight replacement for the GT with bigger blades so you may want to do that instead of messing with adapters though that may be a little more expensive.

I think you can spend your money more wisely elsewhere.

FYI - 5.0 Mustang has an article in the recent magazine that shows the HP/Torque gains from installing the GT500 TB/Plate. From what I can tell, this did not add any hp/torque on their application. They did exhaust, CAI, Tune, and the GT500 TB and gained 20 rwhp. If I were you I would go with the charge motion delete plates, as they are worth about 10 hp and get good reviews. IMO this mod would be a great addition if you went to forced induction, but if you're staying NA, you would be better off spending your money on something else, such as cams.
