catted x-pipe? bbk, pypes, bassani...

I just installed a SLP catted X and I am very impressed by the fit and finish. It also sounds very smooth with my stock mufflers and is stainless so I don't have to worry about rot. I had a Bassani catted X on my '97 and that was a pretty good piece too, although a bit raspier due to the clamshell crossover design.

New Cats...

I found the specs on the Pypes cats. I'll have to measure and see if there is enough room for them. $179 would take care of that and would probably be easier than a new h or x pipe.

Thanks for the feedback on the slp and bassani.

Sounds like you are going to replace the one cat - definitely easier on the wallet then buying another catted X-pipe.

That's the way I would go - or possibly have an exhaust shop cut out both cats on your midpipe and then weld in some straight sections of exhaust piping to give you a "custom" O/R Xpipe (if you want it a little louder).

FWIW - I used to run a catted Magnaflow X-pipe before switching to the O/R version (wanted a more aggressive exhaust note). It fit good and had no problems with the catalytic converters.

G'luck.

I put an MRT catted H Pipe in this weekend. Took about 2 hours. The impact wrench was very helpful on the exhaust manifold bolts. Everything went very smoothly. The front 2 O2 sensors came right out, the back two I ended up using vice grips.

The car is a LOT quieter inside the car now than with the MAC catted X Pipe. I'm really suprised in the volume difference, I'm thinking it's in the quality of the cats, I cannot imagine the crossover style made that much difference. It's still about the same volume behind the car. I'm using Ford Racing catbacks. Overall I'm pleased.

Thanks for the help guys.

Good point. If you only replace one cat, it should be the same cat. If you go with the Pypes cats, you'll need to buy both. They aren't sold separately for that reason. Pypes is a 200 cell cat. It's possible yours is a 300 cell and you don't want to mix one of each.
