Pulley alignment woes with Vortech setup.

Long time no post.... little update. I got the supercharger going after finding out the hard way what spark blowout was. Put in some NGK's gapped at .025 instead of .035 and it fixed that issue. Then the crank pressure blew out my dipstick, and ugh the lower intake rear seal. Builder used RTV instead of the gasket material. Added a K&N filter where the filler tube was, cleaned and temporarily tried to reseal the intake from the outside. It actually held under boost. Huh. So I went to take it to the local auto-x. That morning the supercharger belt slide forward and became a 7 rib belt. WTF? Turned the belt around, retightened it, all seemed fine.

It was a little over an hour drive to the auto-x. The car did fine, but sounded a little "off" during tech inspection.

I went ahead and ran it on the old stocker rims/tires.

She was a MONSTER.... but part way through the run, under braking the car would almost stall out. I wasn't about to let it ruin my day, so I just hammered down and it would go back into boost and all was fine. I ran the rest of the course, sliding all over the place with little traction. Fun times.

Going back through the staging lanes was not good. There was a loud noise under the hood. It was the balancer beating the hell out of my waterpump. UGH. We thought the balancer took a dump. :notnice: I went and rented a puller.... the balancer although scratched up pretty good... was not the problem. We stuck a prybar into the crank.... yeah, it's broke.

The car ended up getting trailered home. We are hoping it'll just take a "forged" crank and bearings as it still ran. The crank in it was NOT forged, I just hope the girdle held the main caps and kept them in one piece. The car is most likely done for the winter. I can't stop to look at it, until I get my winter beater project finished up. I should have a lift in the shop this spring, so that'll help.

If you want to check out my winter beater project, it's here:

I'm pulling the 302 out and putting in a FI 351. I hope the stang doesn't need the 302 for a block to start again, but it's there if I need it.

Damn Paul, you're really having one hell of a time with that thing! First it was the engine, then it was the supercharger, and now it's the engine again. Even worse, you're worrying me, since I still have my stock cast crank and I don't look forward to the same fate. I still need to figure out why I'm having issues with mine, but that's a thread of its own. I'm half tempted to part out the 302/TFS/Vortech combo and swap in a 4.6 4V, even though I'd be an outcast from 94-95 then.

I think you'd be stripped of your Mod status if you did that Matt.

that really really sucks Paul. I hope its just the crank and you can swap that out with minimal hassle.

It's been a pita, but man oh man did it feel strong. I can't say how far into the 11s it'll go. But my butt Dyno got scared in third gear!

I bet you'd be way low in the 11's, or possibly high 10's with that combo. You'd probably be low 12's or high 11's just on engine alone.

I think you'd be stripped of your Mod status if you did that Matt.
I'm a supermod, so I'd probably just lose my name on the door, but still be here somewhere. I'd have to buy another Mustang (Fox notch ) with a 5.0 in it, so I could stay here. :rlaugh:

Anyone checkout my winter beater? lol I had to stick with the 94-95 Ford thing.
I want a big ol' truck. I wouldn't fit in the parking garage at work with that thing though!

The car ran mid 12 with the 3.55s and barely touching third gear. I would say low 12s would be pretty accurate.

The truck is quite the beater. It was rolled before I bought it. The cab should be the only thing still heavily tweaked when I finish replacing the whole front clip from the bronc. It's not meant to be pretty. lol it'll see plenty of mud.

of course you could do it the right way and put the mod in the notch, best of both worlds and you wouldn't get ousted from here. :nice: and on that note, start building it right....wait for it.....wait for it.....NOW!

I can't get off the mobile view... Ugh. So here's my next bit of news.

Merry Christmas to me!

I have THE best neighbor ever! The lift is from the Acura dealership. I basically stole it... And they are delivering it! :woohoo:

I was able to get the smog delete to work with some washers and extra spacers.

I haven't tore into the stang yet. Working on a bronco for winter now. The lift should prove to be handy. I may go at the engine from the bottom and drop the kmember again. Pull the pan off and scope out the damage from there.
