I am going to change brake pads on a 99 cobra on monday(I am a fox guy. Never done a cobra) What tools will I need and anything I should look out for. Thanks
Nothing you wouldn't need on a Fox. It will all be familiar, just bigger. It's actually easier because you don't have to to handpack bearing and make a mess if you need to change or turn the rotors.
One thing that's not common between Fox brakes and the Cobra brakes is related to the rear discs. You'll need a disc brake piston tool in order to "reset" the caliper from the position it's automatically adjusted to during normal use. The tool fits into a couple of notches in the piston and then you manually crank the piston back down towards the caliper base so that you'll have room to install the new pads. Pretty simple and the tool's pretty cheap - roughly 6-12 bucks. Good luck.
That is a handy tool, actually. I've also done it by laying a flat screwdriver sideways in the large groove cut in the piston and turning it about a 1/4-turn at a time to back it back in. The tool is better, though.
