big block in a fox

  • Sponsors (?)

Thanks for the picture I havent seen a 460 fox in a very long time. I was going to do this to my 87 GT but I went with a stroked 351 for the trans options and weight. The car is geared towards handling. One day I would love to do this swap.

I've seen a few pushed quite further than that, especially with a 4-bolt main conversion.

Not to mention the motorsport blocks . . .

Yeah, I know of a certain promod that ran into the 6's with a stock block with the conversion. I have the engine systems main caps, They're BEEFY!
Them compared to a the stock 460 front cap..

love the big block.D&D automotive sells a complete kit for the swap. Any 4cyl or 5.0 k member works. The Mustang Depot has all the rebuild components for a decent price. I think the power brake booster is fine in your car.I believe the maximum dia. booster that fits is 7 or 8 inches, smaller the better. With aluminum heads and intake your at the same weight as a stock 351w. Had a 429 in a '78 Fairmont I once had, even kept the stock flat hood. Used stock height 302 with air coil springs.Killer low end torque. Couldn't keep tires long enough. Great swap, lots of fun. Had almost 480 hp and almost a dead stock idle, not tempermental, no exotic stuff,no over heating, just start it up and drive. Grandma could drive it for groceries, stop for gas and drive it back home.

well.. we're going to see how the BB does.. started tearing it down this week. and going to send it off to the machine shop to have everything checked over.

like 7upstang said planning for 500-600 on motor and then i'll decide how much to spray on top of that.

whats up mang...

I've built a naturally aspired 460 truck block with std size 460 forged pistons, std size 460 forged rods, and standard size 460 forged crank with main girdle that put out 720 hp on a engine dyno. If you want to throw boost at it and make more power than this I would recommend a Ford Racing Block.

this is what i'm trying to figure out cause i might put a turbo on it. if not a turbo then it is definitely going to see some spray

Well he wants around 500 motor, 700 on the bottle.
He could do both but the BB would be cooler.

I am building a similar motor right now . . .

waiting on my probe pistons to show up! its been almost two months :(
Eagle SIR i-beams
pp balancer (got the rods/balancer for $150, don't ask :D )
D3 heads that I ported and put the 351c 4v valves in (2.19/1.74)
241/249 voodoo cam
torker II
850 race demon

I hope this thing makes 450 or so rwhp (th400) and I will be spraying 200-250. Or whatever it takes to get in the 5s 1/8 :D

Personally for a dirt cheap build I would do a BBC/th400 with a motor plate but I got the rods and balancer for a song and picked up the '73 long block from a friend of mine for $80. Besides a ford in a ford sounds better.

I split my sbf block with a turbo awhile back and was never happy with the carb I converted to blow-thru. I also had a steep learning curve with the BRPV and felt that I could have been racing a LONG time ago had I done a nitrous combo.
