Entry Level add ons for my 06 GT

Greetings all, I am new to this fourm and was hoping someone could give me some suggestions for CAI and exhaust for my GT. I don't want to void the warranty, but want to do entry level add ons. Any suggestions as far as brands, best sound, overall quality and the like is greatly appreciated. Also, any lessons learned and brands to STAY AWAY from would be helpfull also. Thanks and i look forward to reading any replies.

Okay so hopefully this will help you a little. If you want the best its costs a little extra but youll get the best response as well.

CAI: Id go with JLT CAI. Its the best for our car. I have an 07 GT with this and I got it color matched as well so it looks amazing. Ask any tuner and they will tell you it will give you the best airflow.

The JLT does require a tune though you can get it without needing one they have a version that gives you the option. I got the SCT tuner with it and if you have the tune that JUST say it has a different intake, like mine was, Fird really doesnt care about an intake. Though now I do have a custom tune.

Exhaust: As for exhaust one of the best and sounds the best and my and many personal favorites is the Magnaflow Magnapack Cat-back exhaust. Great product, sounds great, opens up and goes great with the CAI. they go hand in hand.

That is actually the order I did mine in. I got the CAI and SCT tuner package from jlttruecoldair.com. Then I got a couple small cheap exterior mods like shorty antenna and smoke tailight tint. Then I got the Magnaflow Magnapacks. NOw I had to do another exterior and performance and it was on sale I got the FRPP lowering springs. I love them. makes the car look wayy more aggressive and you can tell the stiffness and how much better it drives. I will be getting JBA Long tubes and 4.10 gears next but when you get gears it has to have a tune and will void the warrenty. But can also do it through Ford, pay more, but keep the warrent.

Everyone is going to tell you something different because a lot of it is opinion and if someone has something on their car and havent seen or used another one they will say thats the best id just do some research and decide you price range

Josh, first of all how much warranty do you have left when your car is an 06? I bought my car a couple of weeks ago and read hundreds of posts of cai and tunes. I went with a sct controller with a brenspeed tune and a jlt cai. It should arrive this week and will install this weekend. Look for my post as I will document my thoughts. Dont just buy any sct tune, buy one from a respected tuner. Read threads, use the search button. You will find brenspeed, bamachips, tillman and some others as the most popular.

Exhaust is subjective..............again use the search button and listen to clips. Define how loud you really want it. Obnoxiously loud does get old after a while...........research before you buy.

OK, here is MY OPINION,

DONT go with JLT, it is NOT the best for out cars. Who is to say that anyway. JLT is know to have the "color match" wear off, and show metal.

I have the C&L Racer, and it is amazing, VMP gave me a custom tune, and it really woke up the car. 93 octane, you have a choice for 3 tunes...but 93 is all you will need. Save the remaining slots for tetris and brick breaker.

as for exhaust, I am a Borla guy, so I am biased, but borla is fairly aggressive without having a retarded loud, annoying sounding car. I ran that for a while, and I got to much gurgling and popping and rumbling when I let off the gas, I now have the MRT Catted H-Pipe, and boy oh boy, it sounds fantastic.

I have noticed that the wheels break loose alot easier ever since installing the H pipe, meaning it did the justice of sound and power.

as for your warranty, you will not void warranty from putting on parts for the MOST part. If you have a descent dealer, he will work with you.

Supercharger, yes that may affect the warranty, but CAI, no, exhaust, no... wheels, suspension..no.... if **** goes south in a hurry, throw the stock crap back on and bam, done.

JLT II CAI did wonders for my 07 GT Automatic. I've since replaced it with a supercharger, but highly recommend the JLT. I've heard plenty of good about C&L, too, so either should be a good CAI for your consideration. Just be sure to get a handheld tuner with tunes from a reputable dealer. Bamachips, Brenspeed, etc. Or, have the car custom dyno tuned for the absolute best results.

Exhaust is very subjective - as others have mentioned - but know that axleback muffler kits out there don't yield any power (just sound). Long tube headers and an X-pipe (off road or with high-flow cats) will free up power - especially as you add more and more engine mods (heads, cams, blower, etc.). Lots of good brands to choose from (JBA, SLP, Kooks, Borla, Bassani, etc.).

Try to see/hear as many other Mustangs as you can and ask a lot of questions of their owners to find what you like on other people's cars.
 
Any CAI that does NOT require a tune is a waste of money. JLT, C&L, and Steeda, to name a few, are the more popular with our 3-valve motors. Custom Tuners have already been mentioned.

Also, a custom tune/CAI will have an effect on the way the motor and exhaust sound.

Exhaust mods are whatever you personally like. I haven't replaced my stock mufflers as I like the way they sound. Try to hook up with a local 'Stang group and see what they have and how their cars sound. Sound clips are on the web, but they will not be the best quality. You might get a general idea on how they will sound on your car.

Entry level stuff would include a cold air intake, exhaust, and maybe a tuner. You could also do gears if you want a little bit of a bigger increase in acceleration.

As for sound, you should do a search on YouTube and see what you like. Magnaflow's have a nice deep tone but won't drone inside the cabin. Look around and see which one you like the best.

+1 on the JLT. Im running it with a Bamachips tuned SCT, it's a totally different animal than stock.

For exhaust, I went with SSS Terminator Axlebacks and Pypes O/R H. It's loud, but the sound is killer. Quality isn't top-notch though, I had to bend the SSS hangers a bit and opted to weld the tips (they come with 4 clamps, 2 for the over axle and 2 for the tips) and get a new set of clamps because mine were suspect. All in all, I'm still out the door for less than $600

Well actually if you do do the research JLT will give our year mustang the best airflow which in return produces more horsepower. And my friend has the color matched for 5 years?, and his is perfectly fine and looks brand new. So I guess maybe it depends on how you take care of your car.

And as for Borla you are correct Borla makes a great product and thats why I said its mainly opinion when it comes to that. The Borla is just pricy for the same thing basically though the Magnaflow and Borla are great and the only 2 I would ever even consider for my car. So I do agree with that, and just doing research and choosing whats right per person.

Also not saying any other CAI arent good cuz there are plenty of great CAI for mustangs thats whats awesome is there is something for everyone depending on their price range, style, etc..
 
And again this is my opinion I wouldnt waste the money on just axle-backs (nothing wrong with them and dont mean to offend anybody by this cuz I know a lot have them), but just me if Im going to spend money for something I love I go all out and Id rather spend a little more money and get a full cat back system. Just a smarter purche IMO. Get a little more power and sound

I guess I have no experience, I have just read this from a few different threads about the color fading/wearing off.

All aftermarket parts say that their product is the best. Advertising.

About painted parts and color fade:

If you do buy a JLT, understand that being painted you have to care for it like you'd care for for any other painted surface on a car. I've been pulling mine off, washing it with whatever my favorite is at the time (currently P21S shampoo, love this stuff), and hitting it with a couple coats of Klasse AIO every couple months. In between a little wipedown with a quick detailing spray keeps it piano black and glossy.

Then again, maybe some folks just got a bad batch.
