Any body using this rack yet? Pros and Cons out there? I was thinking of going with the TCP stuff but when i saw this, its a deal you cant beat!

I am very familiar with the TCP, and like I said earlier, I will be installing one of these within a week or so. I will be sure to let everyone know about installation, performance, etc.

Talking to a member on Mustang Steve site and he recommends using Red Loctite on the bolts on the rack. He had one bolt loosened up. So I thought Id pass that on. Ill be using Loctite when I install mine.

Yes I saw the promotion too. Been looking at every damn R & P I can find and still undecided which one I want. Its cheaper for sure to go manual R & P but I like the idea of power. I need to do the whole thing, column, rack and power plus I have Grenada spindles. Does the Unisteer have a ford plug for the column or is GM like some others Randell's or TCP ....can not remember. The lower price is nice but not as flashy as a Flaming Rivers et up.

kiwi: What do you mean "Ford plug"?

as far as Unisteer goes, I have a power kit on my 66'. Its snappy, but makes a funny vibration when turning sharp at slow speeds. The bracket relies on the cross-member bolts, and im a little wary of the quality of Ford nut-serts. I'm going to take a video to show that the rack rolls in the pitch-axis as i turn the wheels back & forth in my driveway. i might weld in a support bracket to keep it from fatiguing the metal around the nut-sert weld. hate to have it come loose.

Tips during the Unisteer install:
be carefull to not over tighten the hydraulic fittings. they will crack if yo tighen them too much.

make sure the fittings are installed on the correct pressures. it can be confusing which way it goes, and it will be damaged if you install the lines wrong.

you may need to replace the banjo fitting on the pump with an elbow to route out the line.

i'm 6'6" and have long legs. i used a longer shaft between the two u-joints and moved my column out for more leg room. (cheaper than buying a tilt column) this will require drilling a small hole in the column and machining a notch in the shaft.

overall, its a decent kit for the money. TCP costs way too much for my wallet. I had a few headaches getting it all to work, but its better than paying $3000 for steering.

Ran into the same problem today with the install. The instructions say that the fittings are pre installed on the rack, but they wern't, the adapter fitting was screwed into the line. I had to call Unisteer to clarify which port on the rack is the pressure port. (Lower port) If they had installed the adapter on the rack on the return port, then it would have been simple. Both ports on the rack are the same size, but the P/S lines are different. So far install is a breeze. Had to clearence the lower control arm mounts as stated in the instructions, then it fit right in place. Tie rods tomorrow. I'm pretty impressed with how the steering column went back together. Very little trouble so far.

So you ground that lip off near the lower control arm? Did you have a mini
Starter? I installed one this morning. Said there might be clearence issues with the standard starter. Hope to start on the install soon. I need to still pull my steering column. I see there is a little bit more work with the 69 column.

My buddy has a concept one power steering pump that came with his pulley kit and he is not using it, will the pump fit with the unisteer Power R&P? Are the pumps all the same as long as the line fits in it?

Exactly. No mini starter. That stock starter cleared fine. Not too thrilled with how the P/S lines have to be routed. THink they could have put 45 degree fittings on the rack or something. But this car has stock manifolds so not going to sweat it with this one too much. Pleanty of room once I get it tied down where I want it.

I should of seen if the rack fit with the starter I had first. Well Im working on the column. They have instructions for the 70 and 65 thru 67. Mine being a 69 its like the 70 but a little different that that. Which connector is the the
Pressure connector on the Rack? Looks like the fittings are the same.

Im not sure about the pump. If you call Unisteer they should be able to tell
you if there is a problem with that pump or not with there rack.
