SSBC 5 lug rear disc conversion

I know you said you dont want to spend the coin on the Ford Cobra R brake kit but I've installed two of these kits and it really is a great kit. The only thing you re use are your castle nuts for the ball joint. I use to think that kit is ridiculously priced but its a GREAT kit to install and you don't have to worry about a thing. Everything is bolt in and the brakes stop extremely well!

No matter how hard I pull on it, I can't seem to lock up the rear tires on dry pavement. Every other car I've ever owned was capable of locking up the rear tires with the e-brake. It does slow the car, but just barely.

It's not going to..ever. Maybe te stock drum brake setup would cause the rear wheels to lock, but Sn95 disks won't.

Every SN95 i've driven (near new) will not lock the rear wheels if you yank it while driving. In fact, it BARELY slows the car down at all. But at a dead stop on a steep hill, it will hold the car very well.

My '03 GT did the same thing. I used to park it on steep hills and forget to put it in gear and it would be fine for 1-2 days til i realized what I did...but if i yanked it up while driving, it would barely slow the car down.

My Fox is like that too...will hold the car fine, but barely makes a dent. In fact, i've driven off with the ebrake on because i don't even notice it really.

That kit is just a pair of SVO front rotors, and a redrilled t-bird/93 cobra rear disk setup.

Since you said you wanted a better selection of wheels, i wouldn't go this route. The SVO rotor does not allow a lot of wheels to bolt up due to the large hub.

But for $1100, you could put yourself together a nice Sn95 setup.

Does that $1100 include the front and rear discs and 5 lug. if so what do i need?

Huh, well that makes me feel a little better about it I guess. I had just assumed I f'd something up. I wonder why the e-brake sucks so bad on these cars.

One of you guys should put together a nice, complete parts list with pictures and details of needed bracket modifications ect.

For newbie mustang owners like me that really have no clue on which route to go to save money and avoid some of these problems that some are having.

It would be greatly appreciated!:nice:

Does anybody have any parts and pictures in their build thread already?

+1, and not only that, but EVERY car and EVERY combination requires a different list of parts and different modifications. Not to be UNhelpful here, but you kinda just have to research it and decide for yourself what you want to do.

Because I can't stand being unhelpful, and I'm fat and happy right now after some turkey and beer, here are some resources for 5-lug conversion info I found on the interwebs. The first one is taken right off of this website, while the second one looks like a reincarnation of a classic brake-swap website a lot of us 5-lug veterans will recognize. Take a look, google around, and enjoy. :nice: Keep in mind that no matter what you read on the internet, you WILL find that your car will need different modifications and parts than what you might expect. You just kind of have to dive in and learn along the way.

Thanks for the links.

I personally have done some searching and reading on the subject, although I'm lacking alittle info about rear disc parts.

I was just suggesting that it would be a good idea to update the brake conversion thread (in useful technical thread index) or make a newer more complete thread/list than is there now as a sticky. So it is easy to find info and maybe stop some of these repetitive questions.:)

Again thanks for the links, I saved the first link to my computer.:nice:

IIRC it was a sticky and people still asked the damn question

Yup. It was stuck at the top of the page and still people asked all the time how to convert and do a brake upgrade.

It's even worse n Corral.net, because guys would find the info they need, but somehow omit most of the required steps. Very common to see posts about guys running Cobra 13" front brakes and rear disks...but running the stock MC and booster and wondering why their pedal is so soft. Then you inform them they still have to swap the MC/Booster and do a 3-2 with adjustable PV and it's the first they heard of it and want to know if there are any alternatives to it.
