Problem removing bellhousing

For some reason I can't get the bellhousing off the engine block. It's a 1993 5.0 with a T5. All the bolts are removed, front and back of the bellhousing. Chilton's says there are two dowels on each side of the bell housing, that's all that's left. I've marked the dowels in red on the photos. Are these the dowels? I've checked the front and back of the dowels and they're aren't any bolt heads or allen wrench heads on them so I'm assuming they're press fit. Any ideas?

You are correct. Those are the pins. Its a tight fit. Sometimes you have to persude it to come off.

Do you have the starter off? I think you have to remove the starter bolts if they go into the bell housing.

Yeah, the starter is off. After 30 minutes persuasion with a rubber mallet I think I've got it about halfway off.

Thanks for confirming those are the dowel; I probably have no business taking my car apart like I am. lol

No problem....I assume the clutch needs replaced? Is that why you are taking it apart?
If you doing a clutch I would spend the extra 20-30 $ and have the flywheel machined smooth. And while that is off change the rear main seal if it hasnt been changed.

x's 2, if the fly doesnt get turned and the seal replaced it isnt worth doing the job!
