I have had some trouble with my 500 cfm Edelbrock w. automatic choke, so I am planning to cchange it to one with manual choke. Question is, should I go for 600 cfm?

I have a upgrade cam/lifter setup, performance intake and dual exhaust.

upgrade to a 1406 when you change the cam. it has the electric choke on it, and it is 600cfm. between a friend of mine and i we have 7 1406's of various ages, and they all run great.

I see happy folks here with the Edelbrock 1406, which I was planning to use on my 302 roller with mild cam and edelbrock performance heads, and then guys here in Tucson say they are crappy and I should get a 4160 style Holley. (summit part 080457-s)

Then there is the Summit MO8600 recommended by Summit of course.

I am no expert with carbs but this debate from Edelbrock vs. Holley sure has me confused.

Seems the pro's like the Holleys better and frown an Edelbrock quality, even mentioned to me some Edelbrocks are bad out of the box.

The reminds me of the Colt vs. S&W argument.

where in tucson are you? one of the cars my friend has that has a 1406 on is a 68 Z28 with a new engine that we did recently. throttle response is excellent, but it is a bit choked off at higher rpms. we built a 350 with sportsman ll heads and an xe268h cam for that engine.

Well, if you're racing, you're constantly making changes to the carb. This gives Holleys the advantage there, Holleys are easy to work on, and they need to be. The restoration pros I know prefer Edelbrock. They've never had one bad out of the box. You park two cars, side by side, for the winter, and in the spring, the Edelbrock-equipped car fires right up, while the Holley requires some of that "easy" maintenance.

The Edelbrock has a similar long history of performance, having been used, in it's previous incarnation, as the Carter AFB, in such cars as GTO and Corvette.

Good to know you guys are here.:D

If I ever get the front suspension and steering back in, then I be able to install the new 302. :nice:

I took a lot of pictures, hope I can recall how all those accessory brackets mount, for a/c, alternator, and power steering.

What do you have for a steering setup on your 66?

same as my 64 falcon, the stock manual steering box. that should change in the future though, not sure to what though. borgeson has a new power steering box, or i might go to a rack and pinion steering.

I've had my edelbrock for about 8 years now. I have never had to touch it outside of when I have totally changed the engine and needed to re-tune. No leaks, no mess, no fuss - it just plain works. Makes decent power as well as far as I can tell. Havent done a back to back to compare with a holley, but it certainly does a great job as a street carb with occaisional track time.
