88 mustang fuel pump not priming.. yea.. another one.

Well I finally tracked down what I believe to be the problem. I have a Vortech BTM ignition box installed in the car and I think it draws too much current from the key on wire. so I think it blew the fuseable link under the dash. So when I replaced that wire with a new wire and a fuse that I could check it would be ok for a few days then blow the fuse. So what I'm doing now is seperating the ignition system from the fuel system key on signal and putting it on a switch. Until I can do that I'll just run the stock ignition system.

I think anyone having similar problems should check their coil and TFI module red and green wire and check for 12V with the key on. if you are not getting 12v at both you may have a problem with the under dash fuseable link that I'm told exists but I can't find.

the way I diagnosed this was after the fuse blew I disconnected the BTM box and just ran the stock ignition. then hooked up the BTM and ran it until the fuse blew, then swapped in a higher amperage fuse to see if it would keep blowing. I started with 15A and went all the way to 30A and it blew them all. I then took the BTM back out and put in another 15A fuse and all was good again.

So I've either got a bad ignition box, or just not enough current carrying capability on that wiring for the ignition.
