Things are looking up

Good luck with the interview and hope you get the job.

I am union, and yes they have their faults, but the benefits outweigh the negatives. Maybe things are different in construction than manufacturing but there is pretty much no seniority in union construction around here. If you work you stay employed if you screw off you are unemployed. I worked my way through apprenticeship and ended up as a superintendent for an electrical contractor.

Before I started working in a union I had quite a few of the same stereotypes that lots of people have about them, lazy, can't be fired or disciplined, etc. Having worked union for the past 14 years I can say that most of the stereotypes are just that, stereotypes mostly founded in what someone heard from their friend, brother, etc. about unions. Sure there are lazy bums but they are everywhere not just in unions. In our local you know who you do not want to work for you so if they take a call to come out to your job for a job opening you don't have to give it them. If their unacceptable they are unacceptable as simple as that. You send them back to the union hall. Everyone knows who the problem children are and they are usually the guys on unemployment or travelling around the country to work cause they can't get a job at home.

i second that

good luck and I hope the best for you. I'm union proud IAFF but I have a feeling the firefighters union might be different than the unions that represent the rest of the working world. I can't really comment on it since I only know the IAFF and municipal contracts but it has been one of the best groups to belong too. again best of luck.

In my opinion, firefighters are the most honorable and selfless emergency personnel the world has known. A union in your case is an exception to the rule. :flag:

NEW JOB

Hey man congrats on the new job. :nice: Do you live in Washington or Oregon? If you live in WA do you know of any shops that specialize in mustangs maybe even have a dyno? I live near the Ft. Lewis area any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance:flag:

Thanks 50GTCONVERTIBLE i live in washington (vancouver). I would very very highly recommend this guy for tuning! Horse Power Ranch - Dyno Tuning Specialists. We Make HorsePower! so much that i drove 4 hours round trip for him to tune my car and my buddy drove 6 hours round trip TWICE to have his done! Now he's gonna do the trip again! The trips had nothing to do with the tuner! The 1st time we punched a hole in the cylinder BEFORE we got there because we had to much boost and didnt know it. The second time the tuner lost his programing equipment some how and SAID the next one EVERYTHING is on him 100%! peace

Ill agree with smokedya, john is the best in your area hands down. I too have traveled that drive for his expertise, as have multiple people I have referred. My father being one of them also drove about 8 hours round trip. Hes that good.

My gripe with unions, are the fact that years at the job take seniority over work output. You could have two guys, one guy that has been there 20 years and does nothing, one that has been there 5 years busting his *** and in the end the 5 year guy gets canned if cut backs are made.

i have 21 years with ford and i am in the union my seniority only accounts for shift preference or if there is a classified job that i want to bid on. in the instance that there is a classified job up for bid my seniority will help but if i have a single blemish on my record for absentism or any other infraction i would lose the bid to someone with less seniority and a clean record.as far as guys busting their *** like what has been said you get that in a union shop or non union shop with regards to work ethic.the union can only do so much if you don't want to work you'll find yourself eventually on the outside looking in.
