My Quest for a 10 second pass.

Jeff I was pumped when you sent me that text. We were really hoping it would do it, especially for all the naysayers on here. Couldn't have asked for a better track or weather, the car must have been running hard. Run the slicks around 12psi and make sure they're cleaned off real well. If there's still some meat left on the et streets try soaking them in vht, that will bring them back to life. I'm really surprised it 60s that well with 3.27s. I would put some 3.73s in it on a 28x9" slick and it should 60 in the 1.4Xs and 10s will be a piece of cake. 1.53 is pretty badass for a drag radial stick car, so you know the suspension is working.

the car already has 3.73's, the drag radials are pretty much brand new, I think that was about the best i was gonna do that day at the track, the prep was better than lebanon but it was nowhere near what it was two weeks ago when i went there. It was the last day of the season so you could tell the guys were getting a little lazy, one of the passes i could actually see water that was rolled into the beams, i spun hard that pass, which was a good thing cause my hood was unlatched and if the car hooked i woulda been in trouble.

Even though its not a 10.xx pass im still happy with the way everything went, car runs super strong, nothing is broke, and ive got all winter to really get it dialed.

Oh, damn I could have sworn earlier in the thread you said it has 3.27s and I couldn't believe it. Maybe it was a mistake or I'm just retarded.

Faceplating is a modification to the gears in the tranny similar to "proshifted". It eliminates the syncros and allows the trans to go into gear much smoother and easier when under power, especially at high rpm when syncros don't like to work.

Well, figured id give a little update on this... Last night i went to my "home" track where i have run a best of 11.34 at 120mph on a 60 to 65 degree day with little humidity. Last night, i got two passes in, first off the trailer was an 11.2x at 122mph, second was a 11.14 at 122mph. The weather was crap, and i was expecting the car to go like 11.50s. The wednesday track prep is non exsistant because it is street night, which means no slicks, so those two passes were on drag radials. The night was cut short because my battery kept dying on me and a older mustang popped a freeze plug and shut the track down.

I was pretty suprised/excited the car ran that well in the humidity on a marginal track on drag radials. I am running True street this weekeend at the tasca ford weekend in epping, NH, so we will see what it does with good prep. Hopefully i will get a pass on the slicks before the TS competition starts.

Hell yes! Sounds like that new cam is working for ya, eh? How does it compare, drivability-wise?

Cam is definitly working, the whole car is working very well, my friend Paul helped me set it up and it has never worked that good at Lebanon Valley before, big thanks to him. If i had more passes i think i could have launched it harder, 2nd passt i launched at 4k, walking the clutch out pretty aggressive but not fully dumping it, and the car felt like it might have had a slight spin in 1st. I wanted to try 5k on the launch but didnt get a shot.

To put it in perspective power wise, last year at Atco when i ran the 1.49 60', the 1/8th mile time was 7.13 and the DA calculated at -237(GREAT air), last night at lebanon with a 1.60 60'. the 1/8th mile was 7.1x and the DA was 2333.

Drivability is better than the old cam, but i also have the megasquirt and a different tuner. I can lug the car down to 1500 in 4th and 5th gear, anything under that and it will buck. The tune needs a little tweaking but it is pretty good. For a cam that measured over .600 lift at the retainer, it drives really well.

Nice Doc! What cam did you go to? Solid Roller? I am 11.428 @ 123 in true street at Milan, MI with 8" wheels and 60+ passes on the MT DR. Good luck this weekend I will look for your results.

Thanks Scott. Have you thought about a 10" rim for the radial? It really helped me out. Hows your car going this year? Havent seen any updates.

Still a Hydraulic roller, made similar power on a different dyno than before but the car feels stronger. If you look at the dyno sheet, you can see that the torque comes on strong till about 5k rpms and drops off fast. I think this is because the header is the big restriction right now.

I have a set of 1 7/8'' Accufabs (with adapter plates to spread the bolt pattern out) sitting in the porch waiting to go on the car right now, but the way the car is running, and especially after last night, im not in a big rush. I do think they are worth some power because cam was designed to peak around 6600rpms, and the 1 5/8 primary tube on the bassani is probably hurting it alot. The plan in my head right now is to put the header on towards the end of september/beginning of october, run the rest of the nitrous lines(i put the bottle mount in the trunk when i had the tank down to drill for the battery tray), and go back to the dyno to see if it picks up any power with just the headers and see how it likes a 125 or 150 shot

Car is much stronger with the AFR 205's and the super victor intake. I have run some 126mph 1/4 so I know it is making the power. The suspension is better...I still am struggling with 60’. I am working on getting a set of 28x10.5 slicks on 10" rims that better help, although I will need to stiffen up the back as right now with the 26" I am getting 2.5" of squat in the suspension. Deciphering the springs in the rear it has 99 mustang springs under her. I have launched at 5500 and 5700 and the best 60’ was a 1.6 so far on the DR (RPM recommended by Dave at Team). I have been keeping a close watch on Quarterhorse on HardCore 5.0 as he is trying to run 9's he is currently at 10.07. His car has a lot of similarities in parts to mine. He is using Fox mustang V8 springs with one coil cut out.

Current best below is 11.428 on pass one not pass three. Every time I have been to the track this summer it has been very hot. So I expect to improve some this fall with no changes.

Will have to wait right now as the car is set up right now for the street with street tires getting ready for the big Woodward Cruise next weekend.

I also have GT springs with one coil out... Thats what Dave Z reccomended to me. The car was working better than it ever has at that track. Theres no question your car is making the power, 126 in the heat is awesome.

How much air are you running in the radials and how are you releasing the clutch?
