Wiring harness terminal ends

Im planning to rewire most of the car electrical circuits (ign, dash, headlights, taillights, horn, turn signals, heater, wiper and radio) using automotive color coded wire.
I have some questions for the ones that have done the project, which terminal ends must be preserved, if any? Or could i just rewire it using new electrical terminals?

Also I might install a 3G alt after this project, are there special modifications I need to address to leave the wiring suited for this alternator?

Many of these are available, at least as pigtails. But why? Repair what you have. Or if it's disintegrating, the 67 harness is available new. Just repairing one can be a challenge, actually building one would take more time than working at McDonalds to earn money for a new harness.
 
I bet it is a challenge, but this cable i am getting is almost free, OEM quality. Another issue is i dont live in the US, so importing a harness, after fees and taxes, can get really pricey. I just need a good hobby for this vacations.

I understand you want to do it as part of the hobby, but you will be a lot happier either repairing the one you have, or just getting a new one.........
Where do you live? The world is getting smaller everyday....

Sure. You can get the single, double, triple, and quad connectors, and even the specail plug on the back of the ignition switch, but the firewall plugs, and the plastic connectors for the turn signal, taillight, etc., not so much.

By the time you get all this stuff together, you'd probably spend less importing them.

Im from Mexico, and indeed I could make a trip to El Paso, TX (which is the nearest US city) and buy it there, but Im getting very good quality cable. Cable used by automakers like Ford and GM for basicly nothing, I just need to drive there and pick it up. As for the connectors, the PO probably threw away most of them trying to make a rewiring with poor quality wires, not color coded, without a dedicated fuse block, and piled up all under the dash.
So my idea its just to make that previous attempt, a functional one, one that I can understand and repair if needed, i dont need concourse correct wiring and connectors, just something that works. Also I dont have enough money to spend in it, in my situation i might spend $20 bucks of gas and $30 bucks in ordinary connectors, wire loop and heat shrink. I know I might spend 3 weeks in it, but time is the one thing I have, I can't afford $200 in a wiring harness, plus at least $40 in shipping and another $30 in taxes, not now.

I would think that it would not be an issue to get it shipped to Mexico from Mustangs Unlimited, or NPD, or CJ Pony etc. I would buy a new reproduction harness. The other way is just going to be a headache.
 
Just my 2 cents. I also think that you should try maybe a generic harness like the EZ wire stuff. It is a learning experience when you install it.
If however, you're still fixed on doing it from scratch, The main thing i'd recommend, but not necessary, is changing your fuse box to a newer set of fuses. Those older fuses, from what I hear, are getting harder and harder to get.

As for your original question what to keep, you can essentially find all the connectors nowadays repro. the only one I had trouble with are the ones that go into and out of the firewall. Still can't find em so i just used the old ones. The other ones are the ones that connect into the light switch if you still want to keep the top, the trick with these are to find the female spade connectors that have a locking mechanism in them. you can find them at pepboys in the wiring section.
