Throw out bearing? Whines when driving? Coming from the tranny. I have not personally heard the noise coming from my mom's 01 Cobra but that's what she says.

I'm posting in here cause no one post in the SVT section and I trust you guys more.:D

How many miles does it have on the clock? I had a 96 GT, my cousin has a 96 Cobra and a friend had a 97 Cobra, granted they are older vehicles, but all three of them seized up the TO bearing around 90K miles. They also started about the same also, a little whining noise that would be noticable when you first released the clutch, then over time, it whined constantly unless the clutch pedal was in, then finally the bearing froze up. I agree with hotrodredneck, replace it all if you are going to take the time to disassemble.

Sounds like it's pretty far along if it just 'dies down a little' when the clutch pedal is pressed. I'd get it in to fix it right away (or do it yourself) before your mom is stranded on the side of the road b/c of a TO bearing... I know the feeling, mine did that to me, it pretty much melted to the input shaft on my 96 GT.

Oh crap. Yeah I drove it for myself the other day, pretty bad if I must say so myself. I've never heard one go bad but by reading for over a year and a half on here I figured it out.
