AOD LX setup suggestions.............

Firstly, hello to the Stangnet community- this is actually my first post here, although I've been lurking for quite a while now. It's a pleasure to be aboard!

Alright, here's the deal................

I've got a 92 Mustang LX convertible that I've decided needed a new lease on life. After eight years of faithful service, it's getting some tender love and affection. New paint, tires, wheels, interior, etc. However, I'm hung up on what to do about the AOD that it's sporting now.

Honestly, I'm just looking for a decent street setup that is relatively fun to drive. I'd like to be able to feel the car shift, but I don't want it to be a drag car- it's my daily driver. I've already got a 5 speed "Mustang Mistress" so to speak of that serves as my primary money pit. I suppose I'm looking for imput on converters, valve bodies, shift kits, etc. to liven things up a bit when I rebuild the trans. It's starting to slip a bit, and I've noticed it's been "searching" for the proper gear at times. I guess with 160K miles on it, it's due for a rebuild anyway.

For those with an AOD, what setup are you running, and how does it drive/feel/shift on the street? Oh, and my car is 100% stock motor wise. Thanks for the guidance and suggestions.

Best Regards,
Eric

A good valve body and converter, with a set of gears and the car will be fun to cruise. Depending on what you want to do, will determine what stall you would need. . Shift kits are OK, but I would do the aftermarket VB. With the manual/auto valve body, you will can either put it in drive and cruise, and when you want to play, pull it down in 1st, wind it up to shift RPM, click 2nd, and same for 3rd.... Then when you jump on highway and get up to 50-55mph click her in OD and ride out. If you are gonna keep motor stock, I would recommend the VB, 10" 2000-2400 stall and a set of 4.10's... With the manual/auto VB you can hold any gear until you want to shift. And dont have to do the 1-D-1 shuffle and kill OD....

I have an Art Car AOD in my current 306 blown vert. Had same set-up in my 86GT with a blown 331 and with 3.55's & it was a great cruiser. And not too shabby at the track, would leave line at idle, flash converter, and run low 11's consistently.. And that on 17" stickey Mickey drag radials...

I had a local shop build my AOD with all the good components. The converter is a custom piece they had someone build. It was pricey but well worth it. With the AOD and 4.10's and H/C/I it pulls pretty good. I wouldn't trade it for any manual tranny but I also have a 6-speed in my Mach1.
