How to remove the dash?

I know that there are like 4 or 5 main bolts. But in addition to that what all do I need to disconnect or remove, like wiring, heat/AC controls/ductwork, etc?

I am taking it completely out and it is just me, myself, and I, :rlaugh: and I don't want to get it loose and find something is still connected. If it is possible to set the dash on the floor and disconnect it that would be ok though.

I already have the steering column, seats, console, and dashpad out of the car. The wiring harness connector to the firewall is already unbolted and pushed in to the interior.

As always I am trying not to damage anything in the process.

Thanks much,
Russ

I would add the radio antenna, HVAC controls, and light switch to that list. I've never actually removed the whole dash, but the work I've done under the dash showed me that there were lots of little attachments for things like ground straps and supports for things like the heater control cables all over its underneath. My bet is that you would have to remove a MII dash several times to remember all of the things that need removed.

I would suggest putting a large padded suport on the transmission tunnel to rest the dash on while you disconnect the unexpected finds.

I've had the dash out of mine, and it really isn't so bad. You already circumvented my biggest problem by taking out the steering column. I left mine in and just took the steering wheel off, and had to lift the whole assembly up to clear the column. Not a lot of fun. With the column gone, just take your time unhooking/disconnecting everything and it should go smoothly.

Thanks.

I only broke one thing that i have found so far at least. Somehow I popped the light that lights up the "LIGHTS" light on the lower corner, and broke the plastic around it. The circuit panel is ok though.

I also broke one of the dash pad mounting tabs off, but I must have done that when I took the pad off, since the piece is still attached to the dash pad. Is one of the ones above the instrument panel. Guess I missed that screw. :-(
Shouldn't be an issue, but I was hoping to get away without any damage.

Usually removing the dash is a must when you have to replace the heater core on an A/C car. At least, I haven't found a better way.

As far as the column goes, I would just pull the wheel off and let the column hang on the seat.
