An example of why selling a car is so difficult...

Some peoples opinions in this thread are curious. So if a GT with a Cobra drivetrain is still just a GT... does that mean a Cobra with a GT drivetrain is still a Cobra and should warrant the same money as any other Cobra? A motor (again, in my opinion) is what MAKES the car. Its certainly not the body. Ford doesnt make a GT body and a Cobra body. They make a Mustang body, put a motor in it and that motor is what dictates its lineage. GT motors are GT cars, Cobra motors are Cobra cars. That being said, I dont think most people would want to pay as much as they would for a similar Cobra, but (yet again) that would be their choice and opinion. For a lot of people, or maybe just me, Id see this as an opportunity to get the power of a Cobra and only have to worry about paying the insurance for the GT model. So Cobra power and the only difference would be no SVT plaque and a slightly different VIN. If I had the money, sign me up!

You just have to understand what it's like trying to sell a car like this. Did you ever drop a popsicle on the cement when you were little, and then come back 10 seconds later to find it SWARMED with ants? Now imagine the popsicle is a car you're selling, and the ants are internet tough guys talking smack about it in your threads and over PMs and making you insulting offers. I've been on edge the last day or two because TONS of guys have been coming out of the woodwork with negative comments and insults. If you feel so strongly about it, I'll have a mod take it down. This isn't necessarily in the holiday spirit anyway, I suppose.

i understand your frustration as i have had to dump a few vehicles lately and definitely did not get what they are worth. Try selling an 07 gt500 with literally 7.7 miles on it. garage kept since the day it was bought and hasn't seen blacktop since it left the lot. 31k. the car was bought for 50k and never driven once. talk about a loss.

don't bother having the mods take it down.. i've been on too many forums where something like this happens and the mods jump all over it right away. that gives the members no freedom to voice their opinions which is what forums are for, on top of tech advice.. i just think your opinion could have been voiced differently, and that is all.

again goodluck with the sale, hopefully an enthusiast will come by that will truly appreciate what has been done to the car and give you what you are asking

Damn, he got that for 12.8K??

WHere i lived, Cobras are still $18-22K cars. Anything less than $18k usually will carry some sort of shady background or 160K miles

x2

If they were that price I would have one for a daily.

I personally could see 15k for the OP's car. Termi swaps aren't cheap. Unless you already have a car you're going to swap the drivetrain into its better to go buy a car.

Lets see this "cleanest notch in my area" car then???

I can post some pics of what I consider clean notches,

:D

Oh yeah, the Tr-State area = High prices for cars. You won't touch an 03 Cobra from much under $20K without something wrong. If I ever found a clean, decent mileage one for $13K... I would buy it on the spot.

EDIT: Weren't there track times for the stroked and blown 7up car, and werent they like mid 8s in the 1/8th???

you guys are over looking the fact that it is pretty much a cobra, sure the chassis may be high mileage but all the parts on it have under 20k miles, built SRA, built tranny, tricked out suspension, if the car were a real cobra he'd be fetching 25k+ easy but its just a GT so i say 15k is a reasonable ammount, Chris and i discussed this already, if i had 15k i'd already have the car in my driveway

to the op i think your car is hands down sick. a real sleeper. 15k for a nice car is not much $ considering its already dialed in. if i was a fan of that body style, i would def go for it. stick with it though-someone will buy it, dont give it away just because people are strapped right now, tax season is upon us... :nice:

i'll get pics for you next time i see it.

and yes track time for 7up was mid 8's spinning past the 60'

what everyone needs to remember is that just cause someones asking a rediculous ammount dosent mean they are gonna get it, bottom line is that if you arent a dealership you are gonna deal with idiots that want something for nothing, sad to say, but buying stuff on the internet is like haggling on the streets of mexico for a sherpa or some crappy looking pottery

No offense man, but you guys must have some pretty slow street cars down there, cause mid 8's equals like a low to mid 13 second pass, spinning or not, thats pretty bad for any car with a charger on it.

I want to say the trap speed was like 84 mph or something? A blown 331 even in a vert shouldn't be getting out run by E7 and GT40 cars, and outrun by a fair amount!

Mid 8s is kinda bad for a stocker with a decent set of heads. I was going to hold that one in, but you just kinda came right out and said it 90lx...

I'd still like to see more, though... especially of this clean notch everyone's talking about.

Your car is not worth a penny more than what someone is willing to pay for it. Some cars, like Foxes, are a nitch car, while to most they are just old cars, to some of us they are the ultimate fun car. When selling one, you are selling to about 1% of people out there.

On one hand, you have those who think their cars are made of gold, notches are the worse about this, and I feel they are overrated. On the other you hear about people who are getting these amazing deals out there, so then you have so many people who think they are going to land these amazing deals.

wasnt trying to be a richard but i was just calling it like i saw it, my car was running mid 13's with gt40x heads, e-cam and a RPM II intake. and im embarrased to admit it.

2 problems you run into selling a car like this

1 - is since it is a swapped vehicle there is no real way to verify mileage, in all reality it could be a 160,000 mile engine

2 - swapped vehicle bring on all thier own problems, wiring etc, so anyone who is buying has to trust that it was a professional install

Foxs in general are way overpriced. I have seen countless listings for japped out mustangs with a homemade air intake and a bunch of Autozone bolt ons. These people must be insane to think that they can get 5-7K for there cars. In my opinion I personally love Fox Bodys and have had a bunch of them. I had an 87 GT hatch that I put well over 50K into and it only sold for 10K. This is why they call it a labor of love. Until the car is considered a classic or if it is 10 years or younger you will not get the return on it that you have into it. This is why I go into my projects expexting to pour blood sweat and tears into it with minimal return. My car is more valuable to me then it is to someone else. In my mind I may value it in the millions but it does not mean that someone else does. Sorry for the rambling all. I just get fed up with people low balling others on the things they love. By the way If I had 15K I would definately give you the cash 1991notchbackLX. That car is very tastefully done and Gorgeous

I agree. There is a local board I'm on and every 5.0 for sale has 150+K miles on it, a cowl hood that fits like junk, the interior is ratty and is rusted out underneath...and yet every owner calls it MINT and asks $5K for it.
