HELP! Hood pin question.......

I want to install a Ford Racing hood pin kit and I don't understand how to install the plates. There are 4 of them (two for each side). One on top of the hood and one for under the hood which I assume are supposed to be screwed together. The problem is there is no way they can be screwed together with the short little screws that came in the package. Oh by the way, I have a Cervini's cowl hood I am trying to put them on.
Anyone installed this kit and how are these plates installed?

Just like this kit. Notice the 4 plates, i'm pretty sure 2 mount to the top of the hood and the small screws go through and attach to the other 2 plates mounted under the hood. The problem is, the screws that are supposed to do this are way to short.

I believe me and a friend had this problem on his stang, we just went down to ace hardware and got some longer screws. Although I think he ended up getting the first ones to fit after that.

I welded my top nut to the metal... just tapped them lightly with a rubber mallet to straiten them out.

i lost my stops so i used ones from a FC rx7 we had in the yard.

i cut a small slit in the underside of the hood to get the striker plates inside. then riveted the top plates in place

i just looked i have no better pictures of the underside but im pretty sure thats the way its to be done... im just going to reglass over the holes i cut to get the plates in... get some stainless rivits for a better look then the screws...

This is the part i'm trying to avoid (cutting big holes on the underside of the hood).

in order to get the pins to go in the hoods without scraping you need a decent sized hole anyway... Bigger then the pins at least to account for the angle of hood opening and closing. so all you really need to do is cut 2 slits... re-gassing inst hard at all plus it reinforces the area...

i wish i had underside pics of the cobras hood.

From what I think you are asking, cutting a hole in the underside of your hood is the solution. I had to do this when I installed my hood locks. The hood is double walled and the screws are meant to only go through one wall of the hood, so the underside one normally needs to be cut.

Yeah, I guess thats it. I was really hoping there was another solution to drilling 2 big holes in the bottom of the hood.

All done...... a little over 2 hours. Also, I fabricated two "L" brackets at work and bolted them to the front of the radiator support directly in front of where the hood bumpers are mounted. I then installed the pins through the brackets. I did it this way so I could keep the stock hood bumpers. Turned out great!

To answer your question, there are no plates that bolt to the bottom of the hood. If anything, the two extra plates are spares, or it gives you the option of two different appearances. You just screw the top plate down into the hood. There are no plates that go on the bottom.

Actually, this set in fact does have 2 plates that are supposed to live under the hood and are screwed from the top through that plate. I didn't end up using them though. I just screwed the stainless plate right to the hood.
The two plates i'm talking about are very different from the one's on top. (not shiny, etc.)

Oh yeah, the stock hood latch is still being used. I would actually have no problem trusting the brackets though. I made them from 1/8" steel and bolted them to the support with 1/4" bolts. I suppose they could be welded too, I probably would if I weren't keeping the stock hood latch.

If you weld them, you are going to have to put some sort of paint on them. If you don't have matching paint for the car, it's not going to look so hot.

Like kurt said, but seems like it's all black in there, so just pick up an $8 bottle of krylon and call it good if you weld it.

even if welded id yank on them hard and make sure there is no bending... well if you remove the stock latch.. if the latch is there and you said it is... no problem

Weld a gusset on the bottom of it and you will be fine.
