heh, not many people want to convert from a manual to an automatic, and even fewer decide to go to AOD as opposed to AODE.
so ours is a club with very few members! i have an AOD in mine
it is a fairly straightforward, but here are some of the things that come to mind off the top of my head:
an AOD needs a kickdown cable which is somehow attached to the throttle. as the throttle opens, it pulls the kickdown, increasing the line pressure. a SN95 doesn't have an attachment built into the throttle body for a kickdown, but there is a place where you can put a boss and you can get a cable from lokar. i have an old thread that has more details about it.
the thing here to know about is that the ratio of the radiuses of the connecting points determines how far the lever on the tranny moves as the throttle moves. i am not sure if my ratio is exactly right, but it seems correct to me.
if you are going carbed, then the whole kickdown thing is built in, but then you have other issues (related to converting from efi to carb) to deal with.
now, depending on the shifter you go with, there are different things to be aware of ...
if you want to use a stock shifter (i have a stock 94/95 AODE shifter right now), i should tell you that i had a really hard finding an shifter cable for the AOD, and i ended up spending too much money for one from a JY that has an issue.
because of the above, i decided to get a lokar shifter which comes with a new cable and an adjustable lever so you can make sure the shifter lines up with the crow's foot in the tranny. it has been sitting in my trunk for 6 months now waiting for me to get around to doing something with it.
in either case, you will also need to rig some stuff up to get the backup lights and neutral safety switch (NSS) to work. i have my NSS jumpered at the connector in the engine bay near the firewall on the passenger side. and i haven't done anything for the back up lights. i don't think the car will start without the NSS thing.
lastly (at least for now), you may or may not have anything to do with your exhaust routing. my setup is so far from stock (351W, aftermarket k-member, mid-length headers, ...) that the fact the my mid-length headers needed tweaking to clear the k-member and transmission may have nothing to do with the transmission and everything to do with all the other custom stuff in my setup. i just thought i should mention that there might be a clearance issue with the exhaust.
