So some of you guys know that my car got hit somewhere around 6 months ago. Well finally their insurance company is deciding to pay out. Looking to get my car painted. I would love some OEM replacement front nose parts. Anyone know where i can find those in the NE??? Contact info too if possible for those places.

I want the Factory Laser Red. I think the code is E9 but i hear alot of times it doesn't come out perfect because Ford did a 3 stage and alot of shops only like doing single stage.

I just want my car to come out as factory looking as possible. I don't want the Jambs not matching the body.

Would be nice to find a shop that would talk with me about whats going on with the body so that i can make decisions rather than having my car pulled shot and rolled out the door.

Thanks in Advance guys

Chris

I would think that any shop that didn't want to do it properly should be scratched off your list. It is a three coat process. The first coat looks like it is sprayed gold, the second is what gives the red color with the gold fleck showing through and the final is the clear coat. There is no satisfactory one shot fix.

Not local, but if they insurance company is paying out, why kill yourself looking for used parts?

Latemodel Restoration Supply

As for the paint....just make sure whatever body shop you approach, you make them aware ahead of time how the paint process is supposed to be, how the finished product is supposed to look and how you will be both very disappointed and very unwilling to sign off on the work should they cut corners in order to make a buck from the insurance company.

I thought insurance was paying him for the car....not fixing it themselves.

He can put money elsewhere....even if it's not car related if he saves some. Used parts don't = bad parts.

They may very well be paying him directly....he didn't specify. Most insurance companies I've dealt with won't pay out directly unless they're totaling the vehicle?

As far as they used parts go.....hey, if you want to try to stip and refurbish some dry rotted, chipped and spider cracked 15-year-old eurathane front clip, or pound the dents and grind the rust out of a set of used fenders that have been sitting, rotting in the elements in some wrecking yard for god knows how many years, be my guest. But when you can get a brand new, O.E. quality reproduction front clip for $99.99, brand new fenders for $89.99 each and a new stock hood starting at $199.99, is it really worth turning wrenches at some shady pick n pull for used ones?

Well, since the stock hoods are made of fiberglass, it won't makes a crap difference if he buys a used one of those or not. And since our cars weren't made in the dark ages of automotive technology, a used set of RUST FREE fenders can be had easily (not sure about the NE area, but here it's a good possibility).

I will agree on the bumper though. Most of the ones I see at the junk yards are spider cracked like crazy and sagging. They don't hold up too well after 15 years in the sun and elements.

Gotta be careful buying that cheapo sheetmetal. Most of the time, there is a nasty bit of work involved in getting it to fit right. It really is better to buy OEM sheetmetal parts from a parts car/JY. It might be a good time to put an aftermarket hood and bumper cover on it, if you fancy that sort of thing.

What insurance company is going to pay out for this paint job on a 15 year old car? If anything major happens to our cars they are going to total it. They just dont have any value unless its a minor repair....and at that point they arent paying to have the entire car repainted.

$89.99 for fenders that are going to fit like crap? LOL OEM Ford fenders run $275! I will take an OEM Ford fender from a junk yard over aftermarket sheetmetal that fits like crap ANY day of the week.

The whole point of that website is you have options. Sure you will have parts that have been sitting for 10 years rotting. But you also have a chance to find stuff that just got wrecked and is still in good condition. Not every place is a "shady pick n pull" :rlaugh: You've never been to a yard that had the parts off the car prior to you getting there? It takes 20 minutes to pull up a list of yards that have what you need and to call to get a description of it. Doesnt pass the quality test you're lookin for? Great, move on. Or buy new. I think now-a-days people are looking to save cash wherever possible.

I dont care if the guy gets something new or old....pays top dollar or gets it for free. I wanted to give him the option. I expect him to do whats best for his situation...not yours...not mine. To do that he needs all resources available.

Agreed. Anyone who has ever had to do this knows, it's much better to get used original sheetmetal, then to mess around with aftermarket parts. It's easier to get the used parts to fit.

Ok thanks guys....The hood on the car is on....its the nose thats tweaked though. The other car pushed my reinforcement bar behind the bumper ans tweaked the whole nose left a few inches. The rest of the car was in need of paint so i was hoping if it gets totaled i could just get the car painted.

Whats the offer for the buyout? How much for you to buy it back?

I don't know....my attorney recommended a shop....My friend whos been doing Auto body for 15+ years says its a good shop. But he says if i go to a attorney recommended shop ill never see a cent in my hand.

I haven't gotten any numbers yet. How do i approach this? Just ask for a check cut? Theres going to be a check from medical and a check for damages.

I dont know the details of your situation, but when i got in my accident I had to get a quote done by a repair shop (i went to one that doesnt skimp on anything). The insurance company looked at that, repairs were higher than what they wanted to pay so they totaled it out. They said the car was worth $5,000. I could take that and they get the car, or i could keep the car for $650. So they take $5,000 - 650, cut me a check, and i do what i want with the cash.

*****The $5,000 and $650 numbers are complete estimates....i do not recall what they were.

Yeah thats what my friend said they do here in RI. My question is do you think i can get them to paint the whole car with the money paid to total the car out? It must go on a frame machine. Ive gotten prices of around $1500 to straighten the nose and hang all new fenders. Thats no paint or body work.

I was shocked at the value they gave my car 2 years ago. It all depends on that.

Do you have any local car forums with guys that paint on the side? That may be your best chance and you'll get some quality work per dollar spent.

Depends on prep work too. Are there a lot of dings/scratches to fill on the panels that will still be there?
