ffrp hotrod cams w/ procharger?

well guys im new around here, but i can chime in a little.........especially to the guy that asked about a comp cam making more power than the FRPP cams..........I was the first person to have a Comp "thumper" setup in one of these 3 valves, me and a Comp cam dealer worked with comp on my cams for a while, and i came out with a NSR, 3v thumper cam........(which is what i wanted) i also had to install comps phaser limiters. My car made 262 stock, after the cams i made 312 (this is on a mustang dyno WITH TUNING).........the only bad thing is i lost low end torque.........the torque curve with the comp cams is LOWER than stock cams all the way to about 3 thousand RPMs, but then it starts to increase more than stock.........the car only makes 282 FT lbs (or something close, not sure, i dont have the sheet in front of me)..........the good thing is my car makes power way past 6500 rpm so i smoke most any bolt on GT

Nice gains but you can't really give all of the credit to the cams since you are coming from the stock tune. The fact that you lost torque even with a custom dyno tune over the stock tune is pretty scary.
 
Now I'm really feeling better about sitting on this cash waiting for the right cams. Silverstang07 has the Thumper cams which are not the best performing cams from Comp from what I've seen. The Thumpers are more for old school sound, but like I said, I'm hanging around for a while even though the cash is burning a hole in my pocket. Another thing I'm considering is the fact that the Whipple is pushing this stock bottom end fairly hard. If cams are going to do what they mostly do which is killer top end power gains...I may be giving my block a trip to death row:eek:
 
Yeah, I'm still cam hunting as well. I'm leaning toward the comp cams, but want to hear more about the hot rods. I want cams that will work well with the C&L inatke manifold and patroit heads. I'm wanting to hit 400 hp all motor and with all thses new parts comming out, it should now be possible. Still have more research to do.
 
I'm sold on the FRPP cams myself, I haven't seen many dyno sheets on them yet but their all gaining power across the entire powerband not to mention flatening out the trq curve after 4,000 RPM. Even if I only get 20 RWHP, an increase in trq and hp all the way makes a big difference.

I just need to where to order them, Sutton has them on backorder right now.

If you are doing heads and looking for the most power I don't see why you would consider any of the nsr cams, they are not going to compare with the other cams.
 
I don't know what cams to go with, I'm reading what you guy's say about the hot rods, what JDM Engineering says about the comp cams and will gather more information as it becomes available. There supost to be some dyno numbers out soon on the C&L manifold and patroit heads. Would also like to see some numbers on the C&L combo using different cams, that might be too much to hope for. At least for a while untill the C&L combo is in more wide spread use. Just at a guess, what cams do you think would make the most of the combo C&L will soon be offering for street, strip application? I know it's hard to guess without knowing more about the manifold, head package. It was alot easier with the old school ford V-8's, the 3v is new territory with a lot of this stuff being experimental at this point untill we know more.
 
let me chime in on this ... I have a friend that is running hot rod cams in his car wit a p1sc procharger and it runs fine... no power loss he did gain a really cool sound.....
i will be running the same set up in my saleen.. this spring
 
All of the Comp cams dyno sheets I have seen lose alot of torque below 4500 rpm, then come on strong. The Hot Rods can be tuned as seen in MikeysOTP dyno sheet to not lose ANY power down low and start gaining at 3000 rpm. So Comp can claim more peak h.p. but I'd rather have the power through a larger part of the powerband for more overall.....well...power. And yeah, they sound cool as hell.
The Hot rods work best with all the other bolt-ons such as udp, long tube headers, CAI,etc...
