Other than gears...

Ya California, and you just supported my previous few claims as to why i dont think long tubes would be a good idea.

as far as the tune, the dialblosport will not be sufficient?

no i have a diablo right now as well, and whenever i get the funds saved im going back to a xcal3, its not just the tuners though, it physically needs a custom tune to get the most out of your car and for it to idle correctly..

2800 rpm...wow.... and thats healthy for 2v's?

physical tune, like put it on a dyno and fill it with sensors and hook it up to a computer and set the fuel map? hmm... what kinda gains are you expecting? and how would gears and cams effect fuel mileage? im getting around 25-26 mpg at 75 mph and i kinda like it, not sure if i would want to sacrifice more than 5mpg for a few hp

I have 4.10s in mine and drove to Minnesota and back and was averaging about 23-24mpg. I love the 4.10s, and I seriously used to fear the gear, but once it was installed and I got to driving a little bit I am VERY happy I didnt mess around with 3.55s or 3.73s on the 2V. My old 5.0 was good with 3.73s but this motor needs 4.10s. Our mods appear to be similar except I don't have pulleys yet.

Personally, I'm a fan of lightweight wheels and good tires. There's a lot of nice looking "bad-ass" wheels out there, but they're almost all heavy as hell.

The stock silver five spoke from the 99 GT's is forged aluminum, weigh 17 lbs. each, and are 17" x 8". A stock Bullitt wheel is the same size but weighs ~22 lbs. each. If you swap from the Bullitt wheel to the 17 lb. wheel with a good tire mounted, your car will seriously feel different and better. It will accelerate a little quicker as you've shaved a total of 20 pounds at the wheels and you've got better traction. It will handle nicer because the lighter wheels will more easily go up and back down over bumps. It'll turn better because you have better tires and your wheels follow the road better.

The stock silver five spokes are probably the cheapest, best option, but there are plenty of other lightweight wheels out there. They're just not all forged aluminum and ~$400 off craigslist locally. But yeah, they're not the best looking light-weight wheel you could find.

I say lightweight wheels and tires. If you were gonna go FI or something wheel weight would be moot, but since you're not, wheels and tires are a huge performance benefit. Just tires alone are a cheap performance upgrade, IMHO, for what you get. Seems silly to spend a bunch of money on performance that just goes up in smoke because your tires can't use it.

If you've got a manual transmission then there's no need to fear 4.10's. I've got 3.73's in my 4R75W auto trans and I take highway trips as well at 3000rpm/85mph. You should invest in an aluminum driveshaft (250 bucks) and a nitrous kit (700 for kit, window switch, purge). Spend the rest on bolstering the defenses of your house - in case of zombo's.

damn man just do the 4.10's, i drive 30+ miles everyday with the 4.10's. i still get around 25mpg. plus it will haul much more ass.. cams with stock gears will prolly not go that much faster (1/4) than stock. believe me and all the rest of us, 4.6= 4.10 gear , not 3.73 either!!

but my vote would be, a plenum and tb + the 4.10's car will be much quicker than before, then get the cams..

:nice: Agreed

My car came with 3.73's the previous owner installed ( well I installed for him before I bought his car and told him to go with 4.10's and he would not listen) I can't wait to get them out and get 4.10's like I had in my 01 gt.

I drove 70 highway miles a day on 4.10's with that car and LOVED it.

I agree 100% with this. I have a set of stock looking, aftermarket chrome wheels that I run on the street. I use my stock wheels for the track. It feels like an entirely different car with the stock wheels on it, and they weigh around 6 pounds less each.

3.90's-4.10's are a good gear for PI cars. 3.73's work well on stock head/cam NPI cars because the powerband is shorter.
