A friend of mine who has his own shop checked out my 5.0 today because the fuel gauge is not working. He said I need to replace the harness that plugs into the back of the cluster that controls the fuel gauge?? What is the name of this "harness"

Only problems I've every had with the harness on our clusters, are the stupid copper folded contacts. If they bend forward, guess what! no connection. And a nice little $200 wasted for the tech to simply fold the strip back over and voila! working connection and guages. Had this happen a few times to me with my check engine light. Then I glued the darn thing down. No prob since... but i'm not saying its the harness, just giving my info.

Is he suggesting you replace the entire dash harness?? Is it damaged?

Can you ask him why he feels the dash harness needs to be replaced to fix a faulty fuel gauge?

WHat year is your car?

you know i have the same problem in my mustang, the fuel gauge is always past full... the guy i bought the car from told me it was the dash cluster, and that in the truck there was a dash cluster waiting to go into the vehicle, so i swapped out dash clusters and it still does the same thing.....i was just thinking it was a sending unit

Its an 89 lx, He checked out the fuel sending unit with a multimeter and said it was reading fine, i dont think hes talking about the dash harness, i think he means the circuit board attacthed to the cluster which has a small harness... The only harness i could think off is this one on the back of the circuit board...
