Do any of you find yourselves wanting an s197?

Wow.....a couple of isolated incidents and we're damning the whole line now are we?

What do any of those things have to do with what I listed above?

Grasping at straws much?
First, allow me to say that i wasn't exactly responding to your post it was rather a sarcastic post on the

the car itself if by far of better over all build quality than any other Mustang before it.

Part while i somehow agree with it , i have two friends who had their rpm gauges quit working after a year or so , both cars are 05s so i don't know if its related or not , also i noticed the paint over the stereo being peeled off after 4-5 months? Yes a quality product. i am under no illusion that my car is superior to the new mustang , i always liked the 99-04 line because of its looks , not because it was a mustang , with all due respect to the fox body owners it hardly looks like a car its a moving matchbox , the Aero body style was alright but it was out of date and hard to find a clean one around here when i was looking for a sport car , i bought my mustang in 2004/11/9 and i basically had the choice to wait and get the new 05 or just buy an 04 guess which i picked? :D

It is personal preference i point out here not superiority , i am sorry if it seemed that i was arguing that or that i was damning the whole line but excuse me if a car comes with a "Quality is #1" sticker and all these kind of *small* things start to malfunction within a year i would question it :)

And then i just wanted to say i have lots of respect and i appreciate your posts and that you had taught me lots , i never had a chance to thank you so i am now , so thank you Gearbanger 101 and please bare with my extremely bad English :)

Do I want a 05-10 S197? No. While I find that they can be made to look very nice, I'm not too big on the looks, and I just think that they are underpowered and too heavy and big for my tastes. Although I do like how much nicer riding and driving they are. I have driven one once, and it was like a Cadillac compared to my car.

Do I want a 2011 5.0??? They look a lot better to me than the 05-09s, and they make over 400 hp. It's about damn time.

But, I still like the looks of the SN-95s more, specifically the new edges. My car will not be getting traded for a S197. :)

When I say the overall build quality I'm not necessary saying reliability, but the overall engineering. Going from my 2002 to a 2005+ is like going from a 60's car to a 2000+ car. The placement of the shifter, the feel of the clutch and transmission (even though the tranny is the same), the ergonomics, the stiffness of the chassis are all lightyears ahead. The one thing that bothers me in particular about my 02 is the placement of the shifter, the clunky transmission and the heavy clutch. Now as I mentioned I still like my 02 better just because of the looks, weight and relative cost BUT I can recognize that the 2005+ are much better cars.

im not a fan of the interior. particularly the drivers footwell. no place to rest to right leg if you are tall. parking brake also is right on my right leg BUT.....

im buying a 2011gt.

i need a daily driver. i have looked at countless cars. the 06-07 CTS-v was my choice, but the die cast rear end has blown up thousands of times on cts owners so its out.

so the 2011gt is it. look its 32800 plus options. thats less than other similar cars used. i was looking at a c55 merc, 335i, cts-v, vanden plas jaguar, and ruled them all out, except the c55, for one reason or another. the power to weight bone stock is just right. 412hp ~3600lbs.

replace the radiator support, the front control arms and a few minor weight reductions and its just right. a mid to low 12 second car (12.5-12.3) off the dealer show room. 350-360 rwhp.

i would order one now, but im paying 2000 a month in allimony till april. then i get one.

SERIOUS LEAKING/ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH 05+ MUSTANGS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a follow up post to my problem of having a musty smell in my car, it seems that many people are having similar problems with leaking. The exact leaking that is causing my musty smell is also causing many electrical problems with others. I wrote this new post to hopefully reach a wider audience. Everyone should be checking there cars for this problem before it gets out of hand. Like mentioned below your exterior carpet does not have to be wet. Mostpeople feel it under the carpet in the padding (look below at Hyproman's directions)

This is definately a serious problem... When I searched another Forum i came up with these examples:

-Mot250 wrote: found I have a leak today after a heavy rain. Probably coming in around the same area, above the interior fuse box behind the passenger side kick panel. I'll have a closer look as soon as I can. The only electrical glitch was a weird tail light thing. The passenger side center light in the tail light came on and would not turn off. Bright as though braking or signaling. Car off and all light switches off and that light would stay lit. I had to disconnect tha pigtail to keep it from staying lit all day while at work.
If it persists before I can get it checked out, I'll pull the entire assembly and yank that bulb when I get home

-Torch Vert wrote:I went through dealer hell with a similar problem. (same symptoms, electrical system going "berserk" after heavy rain) I found there was water sneaking in above the fuse panel in the passenger side kickpanel. Five trips to the dealership.

-Mark wrote: After a heavy down pour the track re opened but had some standing water in places. It was NOT over 1 inch in depth and it was only lightly raining when my instructor and I did 5 SLOW laps with 15 other cars. The electrical system went biserk and ONLY with my car: The gas gauge showed empty (it was full) oil pressure showed zero, park brake light was on, traction light was on, windows would not come back up, but engine ran normal, no turn signals, no clock on radio

-Wjbiv wrote: Next week my GT will go in for the second time for a severe rain leak into the passenger-side foot-wells. We've had two unseasonably heavy rains in the past couple weeks, and each of them has caused a flood in both the front and rear passenger side foot-wells. This flooding is odd, in that little sign of leaking is visible on the surface of the carpet. The water seems to be coming in from below and saturating the padding beneath the carpetting. In the first trip to service they indicated that they resealed with windshield, cowl, and heater core after discovering some leaking there. If true, I must have additional leaks, 'cause with the last rains it all happened again, just as bad as before. There appears to be something going on in the outboard sidewall in the front foot-well. Behind the plastic trim panel things get noticably wet, especially around the rubber gromet sealing the cabling coming in from the passenger door. Is it possible that water is finding its way inside that area of the body/fender and flowing in through the various bolt-holes and other openings?

67 and 05 ragtops wrote: I have the same water issues. I have even had the door locks and head lights do a freek out when they got wet.

AirForceGeorge- Had electrical problems with tailight

-Hyproman wrote On the passenger-side, there is a square door just to the front of the car door, a few inches up from the floor carpetting. Pull of the door, and you will see a black box, and some wiring/conduits. Reach inside this cavity, and down until you find the carpetting ends. Reach UNDER the carpetting, and you will find the spongey stuff that's laid out under the carpetting. Follow this spongey material (and the metal frame) down to where the frame levels out on the floor.
When I do this, the sponge at the end of my fingers is pretty saturated, even a day or two after a rain storm. I have been to 2 different dealers with no good fixes. I am very interested to see how many other people have this problem, and just don't know it. I've found that this stuff can be wet, even if the carpetting doesn't appear wet.

-I felt my problem on the left(driver) side. I pulled the carpetting back, i had to bend it under the clutch and I ran my hand down to the exact same point and the padding was soaked! No wonder my car smells like mildew.

Thanks to all of those that answered my other post and helped me diagnose my exact problem! Since this is obviously a problem. How can we get Ford to recognize it? My car more than likely has damage that is going to require them to pull out the carpetting, fix the leaks, clean and disinfect any mold that is present and I hope replace the carpet and underpadding. I dont think that they will want to do this but I feel like it is the only thing that will get rid of the mildew smell properly. Since this is a problem that can cause electrical malfunction, rust, corrosion, potentially hazardous mold and mildew spores among other things I beleive something has to be done soon. Are ther any consumer advocacy groups that can deal with these things? What sort of things can we do? Should I get a lawyer and what could they do if anything.

then dont buy one. leaves more for people who actually want one. :nice:

I own a fox and a SN-95-never really gave the197 a thought. That was until I drove one-I know theyre heavy as hell but I gotta tell you what a good driving car. Just all around the car just feels good. I purchased a S197 and to tell you the truth I really dont feel like driving the fox or SN95 anymore.

As soon as I can afford it I will trade up to an '05/'06 GT. I have no qualms with jumping to the newer platform, I like the looks of just about any year Mustang, and the sound is still there. This being my 10th car I don't have any residual feelings toward cars anymore.

talked to the dealer manager today. got approved and all that crap. he told me it takes 8 weeks to get the car after i special order it. deliveries should beging march 15th - april 15th. i have wait until april for my 'situation' to clear and im ordering it.

cloth seats weigh less...im getting them

all to save weight. everything i order will be to minimize weight.

Base wheels and manual transmission too then I take it?

Its funny how people talk about weight. The 05-09s weigh less then the 03-04 cobra and are I think the same weight as the 03-04 mach 1. There is not much difference between are cars and the s197. Now the 10-11 is around 3,600lbs with the new v6 coming in under 3,500 lbs. Ford is doing it right and the mustang is a light car compared to a lot of sports cars that are out today. I will be going with a 2011 in a few years. I will not by a car unless I can get one for under 20k.

I finaly drove an s197, Saturday. It was an 06 GT auto with 25k that was
at a Lexus dealer. The car did not feel heavy at all and the 40 extra hp
was impressive. Deffinatly felt good. Over the phone the sales guy assured
me of what mint condition the car was in. Said they used a meter of some
kind that reads the paint and said it had never been wrecked or painted.
First thing I noticed was blue overspray on all the tires .....:rlaugh:
So both bumpers had beed resprayed. He said the tires had plenty of tread..:rlaugh: they were wasted, almost no tread. The engine was dirty
as hell. Then they only offered me $7k for my car..... I said goodbye.

It's an enjoyable car with plenty of potential but I still enjoy the sn95 very much. I'll say it took a few month for the car to grow on me after actually owning it but I'm kinda glad my wife talked me into it over an 03-04 cobra.
