2014 Mustang

A properly designed IRS sounds great to me..............maybe a solid axle option for the drag guys?

I know that's asking a bit much from the factory.

Solid axle aftermarket opportunity............................

Cool. I kind of thought the next one should be smaller.

I will say that 2014 is kind of a ways off to be making plans based on predictions. But I'd be interested in what the new car looks like. And how it drives. A 400hp DOHC V8 in a more aerodynamic and lighter car than the 2005+ should be slick.

I'd guess the base GT will still be a solid axle. That's kind of the thing by now. Porsche has flat sixes in the rear, Viper is a V10, and Vettes have leaf springs. These are the things that set these cars apart from the rest of the market. Ford has set a precedent by offering Cobras with IRS, so they could easily offer it again only on the top models. But I'm just guessing.

Oooh the smaller size really has me intrigued. I hope they do away with the retro styling too and instead do a "modern" design with retro cues similar to the new edge. I think it's time for a change :)

It'll be interesting to see what direction they go with styling. They sort of painted themselves in a corner with the S197's retro styling. Anything they do now is going to piss someone off.

As long as it's long hood and short deck and a V8 driving up front the wheels out back through an available manual transmission*, I'll be happy**

*and by manual, I mean foot operated clutch, manual lever gear selection - not a paddle shifted, dual clutch, electronically controlled transmission, although that's fine as an option for people who are into that.

**check back in 4 years and see if I have to eat those words or not when they unveil the new for 2014 Mustang III :D

In addition to the IRS setup, expect the next Mustang to shrink in size—think Fox body size — aiding in both fuel economy and performance.

halle-frickin'-lujah...I sure hope it pans out that way

I think the SN95 is on the borderline for being too big, and the S197 is way over that border...I'd definitely be in the market for a new Fox or 64-66 sized Mustang :nice:

I say it's about time to move past this retro phase we've been stuck in since the '90s. Dodge seemed to have started it with the Prowler, and ever since, Ford and GM jumped on board and they've all milked it for more than it's worth.

It's (past) time for some completely new, original designs.

I'm not real sure about all this.

Kind of reminds me of when Ford was going to make a new Mustang in the late 80's but it became it's own model.......the Probe.
Also hints of the '74 Mustang II are coming to memory.

I would hope Ford knows better than to do any of that to us by now.

Yesss... Yesss. For the love of God, yesss. Finally, they're gettin' rid of the retro styling garbage they've been using for too long now. I'm tired of the Mustang's front lookin' like the Corvette's a**. I'm tired of Audi, Nissan, BMW and everythone else receiveing modern styling with HIDs and LEDs while Ford has a circle for headlights. Time to keep the past in the past. And a smaller lighter car, it almost sounds like Ford's coming to their senses. I'd be happy with the size of an sn-95. Just as long as they have a larger interior and trunk.

yo that is not positive yet plus its 4 years away. ford always changes its mind so i wouldnt say it is for sure just yet ok.

True, but the car should be released in the Fall of 2013 and they usually start with a concept about a year prior. Not to mention the spyshots that are going to be going around in auto mags and TV shows.

I love the posts in the comment part of that article, Most people forget that (or have no idea) ford already had IRS in mustangs and people remove that ***** for a live axle:D I think people watch too much top gear b/c thats all they care about is IRS and hate hardcore on live axles:rolleyes: Anyways, im for a non retro mustang, never really loved the 05-09. The 2010-11 are so so..

I'm not thrilled. But I guess I'm the only one?

I thought the fox bodies from the 80s and early 90s were some of the ugliest Mustangs Ford should have aborted! They looked more like Ford Escorts than Mustangs. :puke:

Personally, I think the SN95 and the NEW 2010 and up stangs are the best looking ones.

And personally, if they make them as small as the fox bodies of yesteryear, they can keep them.

But...that's just MY opinion.
