Getting my '66 back together, the suspension and brakes will be finished over the next month or two, then I'll finish up the bodywork and paint. I plan on using a Cleveland-based stroker motor with a C6. I've heard everything from "it's no problem" to "it aint gonna fit" in regards to the tranny. Also heard it will fit with "minor clearancing" of the trans tunnel. Anybody have the definitive answer?

I ran a c6 behind a 351c in my 65 it fit without hitting the tunnel, but the car had a home made trans cross member so I can't provide any input as to what off the shelf parts to use for the installation.

Thanks everybody!
Hey Nick, I ve been told by several Trans shops that you can't get an AOD to handle more than about 450HP-500HP. Judging by your engine, I would think you're pushing quite a bit more than that. I would like an AOD, but I was planning on the C6 with a Gear Vendor overdrive because of the strength issue with an AOD. Have you had any problems with yours, and if not, what did you have to do to get it to live?

I have around the HP level. I've on my 4th rebuild on the AOD in 8 years (the first 2 rebuilds happened in the first year of ownership and then I just had it 'freshened' up when I changed the stall from 3k to 3.5k 2 yrs ago). The trans is essentially a 4r70w with non-electronic control valve body. Upgraded all the hard parts, doubled all the clutches, the latest thing I did which I think was a big benefit (since I have a cooling system that it too small for the car) is put a huge finned pan on the trans. I believe the slightly hotter than normal underhood temps help to work against my trans.

Cool, thanks for the info on the Lentech's. If they can handle 1000HP, I should be OK. Still debating on a Cleveland or World 4.125'' bore block. I have a virgin bore 4-bolt Cleveland, but a big-bore 3.5" or 3.7" stroker World block-based motor would be fun:) . Add a set of CHI heads, a decent cam and a bit of spray...yeah, that'll do it!
