sizing for Bullit-style rims

Good evening,

I'm trying to determine which 17" Bullit-style rims will fit a 1968 Mustang convertible.I would assume the offset would be the most critical measurement.It's front disc/rear drum set-up. Anyone with success stories on sizing and drivability?Any model year that works, spacers needed, etc.??

With a 68, you can get away with wider wheels than my 66 can. Check dodgestang's site for exact sizes. I run 17x8" 2001 Bullitt wheels (same as 2001-2004 GT) with a 5.75" backspacing. Since I needed (and you probably will too, at least up front) a 4.75" backspace, I used 1" billet adapters on all wheels. These adapters bolt up to the drum or disc hub with lug nuts, then have lugs to which the wheels are bolted. If you use later wheels (2005+) you will need a 1 1/2" spacer or similar since they are offset more, with a 6.25" backspace. You will need spacer/adapters if you use any OEM or similar sized bullitt, the only question is how thick. You can also have the wheels narrowed an inch and skip the spacers.

I'm not sure of the backspacing, but I used the factory Bullitts off my 04 GT on my 68 Coupe. The tires are 245/45 all the way around, though it really needs 225 or 235 in the front, it has very minor rub over big bumps and dips.

I used a 1 inch spacer for the fronts and a 1.5 inch in the back, though a 1 or 1 1/4 would fit a little better in the back, but these are ok for my car and I had them laying around. I have Granada spindles though, if that would make any difference.

This might give you an idea of my fitment with that setup.
